| Post subject: | accent gives AA |
i have a pretty heavy accent and it brings my confidence down. i cant pronounce my r's and its not a recognizable accent like a mexican / chinese accent, its just a random one (doesnt matter which), and i know it brings my confidence down cuz in my native country i can open sets easily.. in america i can barely talk to ppl. what should i do

Get over it. In loud clubs, for example, people can't even hear what you say, so it doesn't matter. If it's day game, just go in with confidence and you'll do fine. On tips for gaining confidence, check around the forum, since there are millions upon millions of suggestions. Eventually your accent will probably disappear if you hang around people enough who talk in an American accent. |

i do that alot i hang out with americans, go to school with americans, even play soccer with americans.. but for some reason i cant get the accent, + i keep telling myself that ppl dont care about my accent and lots of ppl have accents and no one cares but for some reason i just cant approach anyone cuz of it .. i can barely order a pizza cuz i dont want the guy/girl that works there to hear my accent. its that serious :\ |

Get your head straight! You're complaining about a chest of gold because it's heavy. When I first came to these shores, the accent alone did all the work for me. All of it. And if you're ever at a loss, just open with anything, then play the guess where I'm from game (or tell her a clear lie about your origin), eventually let her know where you're from, and voila: you just made yourself interesting/different and have had a natural convo without thinking about it. What again was your problem?
