| Post subject: | Calming Nerves For a First Date |
I'm going on a first date with a girl that I don't know very well. Sounds like we're probably going to be going to the bar Anyway, I like many other people tend to get nervous before a first date. Any suggestions on how to handle it? It'll help a lot of people out there. Thanks! |

Its pretty much a mind "game" if you want to call it that. There isn't much you can do really except take a couple of deep breaths right before the date starts. |

Hey whats up man, hopefully you didn't go just yet before reading my reply. If you already did, how did it go? Anyhow, here's what I recommend you try... This may sound a bit funny but it really does work.. 1. Make sure that you give yourself enough time. (rushing to get ready to not be late will only elevate your stress levels and trust me, that’s not a good way to begin. 2. Eat a really good and super healthy meal which will be easy on your stomach yet give you a satisfied feeling and energy to have fun. (DO NOT let her know you ate beforehand!) lol 3. Take a warm 30 minute bath which will calm your nerves and ease any physical or mental tension and don’t even think about the date.( Even when you’re on your way to her house or on it, remember that she is more than likely WAY MORE nervous than you!) 4. Look your best and pick you a fashion-appropriate outfit that you can be comfortable in. (When you are happy with looking your best, your self-esteem will soar and your confidence will naturally put you in a relaxed state of mind. 5. If you do at any point temporarily start to think about the date, immediately distract your mind with something funny as laughter is the best cure for anxiety. (YouTube college pranks, or Bizkit The Sleepwalking Dog and laugh your ass off as a distraction) |

I seem to get this aswell, i get so nervous the convosation will just die and i wont think of anything to say. I realised that the best way to get comfortable with a girl before the date, (thus making things much easier on the day) is to get long phone convosations going. One girl that was coming over to see me, i had only met once, and we only ever spoke via text message, so i didnt know her on a personal level thus never knew how to act on the day which made things go tits up and she could see i was nervous. Some nights after work, if i was texting a girl, i would have a beer or 2, and start up a phone convosation. but give yourself a way out of the convo early in case things end up going a bit sour, say "im starving, im gonna go in a bit need to find somthing to eat", or somthing like that so you can use it later to end the convo. This really helps to get to know the girl on a personal level. talk about anything on the phone, and you shouldnt have much of a problem on the date. |

Thanks... you guys gave some really good advice! I actually never talked to here on the phone before because we started talking on facebook (long story). Anyway, the date hasn't happened yet.. Might be tomorrow or this weekend. I do tend to get nervous before the first date though... so any advice you can give will definitely help! Thanks again! I'll keep you posted on how things go! |
