a question thats really been bugging me - why has no one done pure quantifiable research in pick up methods and documented it? if there has been please post links... |

because pickup isn't a pure and quantifiable science |

... That would be pointless, honestly. KristallNachte has it. There are just so many variables that would be pointless to calculate, because, in the end, the methods are tools. They are only as good as the artist who uses them. And if you use one single artist for the entire experiment, they suck at some methods more than others because the methods don't fit their personality. Though, I know there was an article a while back about someone who did this anyway. I just remember MM'ers sucked. Look in the lounge for an article with MM or Mystery method in the title. I think it would be that one. |

i agree that some aspects would be hard to test but i think overall it would help the community to have scientific evidence backing it up. one major problem is measuring things like levels of attraction... |

You can't get scientific evidence that applies to 100% of the human population because everyone is different, and everyone reacts to stimuli in their own ways. And that doesn't even take into consideration cultural differences (pickup in Japan wouldn't be the same as pickup in Serbia, etc). AFCRoyal is right when he says the methods are only tools that depend on the skill of the user. It's not like following a cake recipe and getting the same results every time. There's a reason why they call them Pick-Up ARTISTS....artistry takes skill that has to be learned, practiced, analyzed, critiqued, corrected, then re-done over and over again. Same thing applies here. The only thing that is in your control is how you react to another person's reaction to what you've communicated, and adjust it as necessary according to what your goals are for the conversation. |
