| Post subject: | Jaded by flakes...but is this girl genuine? |
Last week, I got to know a cute girl in one of my classes and we hit it off. We have good rapport and we're both single, so I have no reason not to pursue. This past week, we have been trying to set something up, but our schedules get in the way. A couple days ago, our school held an event for all the seniors. I suggested she tag along with me (and my friends, she knows one of them). She said she and her roommates had plans that evening, but would try to stop by if she had time. Obviously, that didn't happen. However, when she let me know, she texted, "Sorry for not being able to come out with you, this week has been crazy for me. Let's hang out this weekend, my schedule is significantly less busy!" After I responded, teasing about her not being able to come out with us, she again insisted on me "letting her know what my plans are." Normally, I'd be very skeptical. I've heard all sorts of excuses from girls, ranging from flakes to being stood-up to excuses that don't even make sense. However, I really have nothing to lose here. All my friends at school have gf's, so I tend to be everyone's 3rd wheel. Having a date would be nice. Plus, I have been in a drought as of late; if this girl does want to hang out, I'm set. Overall, I'd like to have a gf at the moment. I feel pressured since all my friends have a girl. Some of my friends like to hit up dance clubs while I strongly prefer the bar/pub scene. The girl I'm into also likes bars more. Her and I get along well, and I am doing very well with the C&F. We text back and forth during our class and have some inside jokes. She appears to be at least somewhat interested and is not a sunshine girl. During one of the inside joke texts, which involves a fictional vacation (relating to something we learned in class), she said she's not a flake and "doesn't do that." While I'll see if anything here will work, I'd also like to know how you can tell if a girl is genuine or if she just likes the attention. Normally, I like a first date to fall on the Mon-Tues-Wed of a week, but I am extremely busy during those three days next week. I'm not really a fan of the weekend date really early in the relationship - in this case, we haven't been on one date. But she wants to hang out this weekend. What do you think? Am I setting myself up for disappointment, or do I have chance? I'll probably text her tomorrow (Sat) and see if we can get anything going. If my friends are heading out to a bar in which she can come with me, that would work very well, but no one usually knows plans until later in the evening. |

I have an update. If everything goes according to plan this weekend, I'm in business. Today, she's supposedly busy (not surprising). I asked her what's up and ended up with an entire schedule of her day. I made light of her schedule and persisted to see what her plans were for the Super Bowl tomorrow. She's not up to anything. One of my friends is probably hosting a small party for the game and she'd like to come with me. As long as the party plans don't fall through (if they do, I'm going to be very unhappy), I have to take this as a good sign. I learned two things about my game that show I'm improving. I have a much better response when a girl says she is busy/can't go somewhere. Although it's not something I want to hear, I am able to laugh and make a joke out of it. Secondly, I learned that persisting the right way works. As long as you're not desperate, it can only help. We'll see what happens. |
