Hey guys,

I've been running into a problem a lot lately when talking to girls. One of the first questions they always seem to ask is what course am i doing in college or what's my job. Currently I'm doing a masters in software engineering and I'm on placement at a big computer company, designing internal websites. Its a topic I try to steer away from because you can literally see people switch off at the mention of the word 'computer'! Its unavoidable though when they bring it up in conversation.

What should I do? Should I embrace my natural nerdiness and show pride in my career choice? Or is there any way to make what I'm doing actually sound interesting and appealing to women?

What does the software do for the engineering company? You could always discuss some of the things the engineering company does but other than that I'm not really sure.

I was in a similar position, but I found this topic very helpful. You should definitely give it a read. Basically Ka recommends that when somebody asks you about your job you can start off with a C&F joke, then get serious and go into a DHV story about what it is you do. If you read the whole thread it should give you a decent idea of how to develop your own story.

Be passionate about what you do for a living. If you're not doing something you love you might aswell start a new career.

Most guys forget that girls like guys that are passionate about the things THEY do. instead of being passionate about what a girl does.
