Post subject:  Approaching infront of friends.

I've just got back in to the game since coming out of a four year relationship. Since then I've developed a new bunch of friends and my cousin has told them the stories of how great I used to be at picking up women in clubs. Now that I'm single again they're all asking me to show them what I can do. One problem... I'm totally rusty.

For the first time in four years I'm face to face with approach anxiety and this time it's even worse because the pressure is coming from both sides, the target and the watchful and expectant eyes of my friends.

What should I do about this? The pressure seems huge, especially after four years of time off. I've considered going out by myself a few times just to get used to approaching again by being blown out a few times, but then I've got my mates asking me to come out and show them what I can do. Basically asking me to prove myself.

None of my friends know about the PUA community. I've tried to tell them a bit about it but they didn't seem interested and I didn't want to ram it down their throats.

Any advice on how to overcome the fear of failure infront of my friends?

Thanks

Treat it exactly like you would Approach Anxiety. If you crash and burn and your friends give you grief over it, don't forget to call them out. "Kay, you go do better." ^_^

It's funny, sometimes I want my AFC friends to put some pressure on me to approach just so I can rise to the challenge. I guess everyone deals with pressure differently.

If you're rusty, then the only good advice is to get out there and practice until you become comfortable again. Also, remember your AFC friends will probably be super impressed if you just number close, so if you have that as your goal rather than a k or f-close, then you're setting yourself an easier and more manageable challenge and you can work your way back to mastery more easily. One step at a time my friend!
