Me: What's your name, girl?

Girl: Girl

Me: My name is Me.

Girl: [silence]

So, if the situation was reversed what would you say next?

Well you're not really giving her anything to continue the conversation with... it's just a cliche, average, boring, dead-end conversation that every guy and his brother has tried to have with her. Try spicing it up a bit. Look around in the "Approaching and Opening" section "Mid-Game" section for ideas.

As [Vegas] points out, its cliche' and lame. How many people do you think have said that to her...just that night?

One of the drills my community will run is to just go up and say, "Hi" and let the awkwardness drop in order to build tension. Technically the ball is then in her court and she can do with it as she pleases. You'd be surprised at how many women will actually smile, stick out their hand, and ask for your name.

here's a funny response which I've used before

instead of replying with your name, once shes given hers, just reply with 'mine too' or say you have the same name. gets a smile and a laugh plus ideal for busting on her should she say 'no its not'

Me: What's your name, girl ?
Girl: Girl
Me: Cool. Well that's a good way to never be taken as a man. Good thinking of your parents.

Or:

PUA: Whats your name?
Girl: George (or Bernie or whatever)
PUA: Somewhat masculine for a girl isn't it!? (said in a friendly/cocky manner with a cheeky grin)

This should fingers crossed work fine. I'll try and remember it if I get into the situation! :P

Well most people say "nice to meet you" or something like that. I just don't understand why she would avoid saying something simple like that. I mean is she stuck trying to think of a response or is she trying to give me some type of hint, like, "I don't care what your name is, pal, leave me alone"

i cannot remember the name of the movie but there is a scene where owen wilson does this....it displays so much confidence if done right. it shows that you do not give a f*ck about awkwardness, you are ok with the silence as you really dont need to please or make anyone feel comfortable. silences are normally broken because the silence breaker feels they are looking like an inferior chop with nothing to say. if you stand there quietly staring at her eyes radiating with confidence giving off the 'yup its your turn now...make it good'....she will be swept off her feet in a matter of seconds.

Never ask a girl her name. Wait for her to ask for yours. Asking her name is DLV. Also, calling her girl is poor form unless you're the guy from Boys 2 Men who always did the soliloquy in the middle of the songs. If you've been talking for awhile and she still hasn't asked your name and you want to ask her what hers is; just make up a name for her. These are good names to use: Hazel, Mildred, Beatrice, Marjorie, or Bernice. Avoid ones like Bertha that would be associated with a morbidly obese chick. She'll think it's funny and probably tell you her name. Make sure if you do this though you're doing it as an exit:

you: Well Bernice, it was nice meeting you. I've got to get back to my friends before they start giving me shit for talking to you all night.

If she's not interested she'll say good bye with a little laugh, and you've given yourself an edge with the other girls in the place because all they see is you leaving a cute girl with a smile on her face. If she is interested you'll draw her name out of her, and you'll have the opportunity to number close.

The important thing to remember is not to actually ask her for her name. Giving you her name has to seem like her idea.
