PUA Forum :: Failed Newbie Mission :(

Hey guys, went out to the mall today to do the newbie mission and I failed...hard! At first, I was going to do the 'Hi' thing but then I thought that was awkward to interrupt someone's conversation just to say 'hi' so I decided to go with the 'do you know if there's a starbuck around here?'

The thing is, all the girls there were either 12 or they're with their parents/bf. I thought it was weird to approach a girl who's with her parents/bf but then I was like...wait, all I'm doing is asking if they know if there's a starbuck around, why is that weird?!...But still, I didn't approach anyone. My problem is

if they're walking in the opposite direction - I don't feel comfortable stopping them dead in the their track to ask for a starbuck

If they're walking in the same direction - I don't know how to go up to them...tapping them on the shoulder to ask where a starbuck is seems creepy!

Not all is lost though, on my drive home, I'd did some thinking! I thought about what happened when I was out with my friends and a stranger stopped us and asked for directions....was I weirded out? Did my friends and I think he/she was creepy? No. So I've decided to stop by the mall, everyday, after work, and approach at least 5 girls before heading home. I've also decided to stop reading up on materials until I can do this without hesitation.

Dotty: How old are you? I don't usually approach girls with their parents (or who are 12- unless you are around that age). Walking in the opposite direction=good Walking in the same direction=bad. Creepers follow girls from behind and tap on their shoulders. If you need to approach some one from behind, walk faster and pass them, and then turn over your shoulder like you didn't notice them before. The point of newbie missions isn't to succeed in every approach, just to get you more confident and out going, and over AA. If you have enough confidence, girls will usually be receptive to almost any thing you say.

Just turned 21 a couple months ago. It's kind of weird because my co-workers thinks of me as an outgoing and social guy...not someone who has problems getting girls! I do get that the newbie mission is only to get over AA, that's why I didn't plan on running any material or taking it any further than the Starbuck thing.

I've also decided to stop reading up on materials until I can do this without hesitation. The optimal approach is to walk in the opposite direction slightly away from the person you are opening. If you head on collision course it is a bit threatening. I wouldn't touch people at all at this stage and certainly not from behind (expert PUA's do tend to touch girls very quickly after an approach, but IMHO it is a bad idea for a complete newb). I failed the newbie mission more times than I cared to remember, many never manage to do it. So, don't worry about failing it once, you are in good company. Just do it tomorrow, no excuses.
