I'm completely new to this and have only been reading through some of the threads, to see what it is all about, and have read some the "useful threads" for noobs, where it goes into some of the pitfalls to avoid, and how improving your game, should be just one part of your all-round development. One of the threads mentioned living in the moment, and how this can be very helpful to your game. For that reason, I just wanted to suggest a book that would be worth reading. It is called "the Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle. It is actually a book about spiritual enlightenment, but it has very useful and practical tips on how to operate more consciously in the present. I don't want to try and explain it too much, because I won't do it justice, but it could provide useful information that could be used in canned material, or sets (or whatever the terminology is), that will make you appear to be a deep and intuitive person. It explains the human condition brilliantly, so it could help you to understand the social programming of your targets better, and also to react to retorts or AMOGING in a more optimal manner. Of course when you read the book, you won't look at it in that respect, but those could be some of the benefits. "the Power of Now" by Eckhart Tolle, worth the read, but again that is just on the basis of having read a couple of threads. Anyone read it and got any opinions of whether it is a help or a hinderance? |

Just wanted to add one more thing to the above, on how it could be useful. One of the biggest sticking points about inner game, is that the habits and practices are almost hard coded into our subconscious, they are the result of years of learned mis-behaviour, or sub-optimal behaviour, that can in no small part be traced back to the relationship that our parents had with each other. Of course, other influences and experiences can affect, or even override this, but either way they are the result of survival techniques that we have learned to utilise in order to save ourselves from pain, anguish and suffering. The book is useful in that it explains how to become more conscious or aware of these mind-made survival techniques. It gives practical examples of how to become conscious of the workings of the mind and how to disidentify with your thoughts and emotions. It doesn't teach you to be emotionless or thoughtless, but rather how to observe thoughts and be aware of emotions. Instead of reacting from a position of social programming, you can be aware of your thoughts and emotional reactions, but not be completely identified with them - this can in responding more optimally to any given situation, event or person |
