ask open ended questions( questions that cant be answered with just a yes or no)

talk about anything that pops in your head

banter(role play: stick her in a role and play with it if done right can be alot of fun)

learn some interesting facts a joke or two?

also another thing don't worry about trying to find the perfect things to say
just be yourself

i know cliche but it works wonders :)

i hope some of this helped
if not i know there's a lot of people on here who have really good input

cheers,

mike

Okay. First off Im gonna tell you that I had this problem, erm... 2 days ago.

I started thinking that HOW EASY IT REALLY IS TO FIND SOMETHING TO TALK ABOUT.

1. You have your eyes. If you are out at date, you can say "Would it be cool to live at that house? *points at some house*", after that you can start talking anything about own house, interior and so on, you name it.

2. Before I go out I have thought about things I know a lot about: you sure have some stories about them. I like motorcycles, I have one. I also have a story about me first times riding, going through spikebush with cousins moped. Add emotions to your story, how was the day when you did something, what you felt like. WOMANS LOVE WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT EMOTIONS.

3. If anything doesnt pop into your mind, there are some routines to save your ass. For example look for "Ring routine".

4. DONT WORRY TOO MUCH, EVERYTHING you say DONT NEED TO BE FUNNY AS HELL.

Good advice is also to start reading your local newspapers, listen to radio...

There are already more threads than I have fingers about this topic.

Go get yourself a life first. Good conversations aren't made up. Live first . . . talk about it later.

All those empty headed idiots who fire off a joke or two at parties are just that . . . empty headed idiots who have a joke or two. You don't make yourself an "interesting person" by scheming up conversation material.

Here's a teleseminar I did with Cameron Teon called, How Not to Run Out of Things to Say... you can find it here - http://12m2m.pdot.com/audio/How_to_not_ ... to_say.m4a

But I highly suggest that you get a life. I mean that in the nicest of ways, but the fact is that people with interesting lives naturally have a lot of stuff to talk about.

I'll try and make sure that AFC Adam and I touch on this in our tele-seminar on Wednesday as it seems to be a problem. That's two threads back to back about conversational skills.

Perhaps the best place to ask. I have managed to move myself to the other end of the spectrum. Now I can hold a conversation, but I tend to docus on myself too much. On introspection, I have realised that I am pretty much DHV'ing myself all the time (when in convo), while frequently asking the listener a few questions.

Any pointers to actually shut me up would be great!
