Post subject:  Openers for girls?

I was wondering if you guys had any insight on openers when used by a girl. I'm getting over years of being a wallflower, but I still have trouble going up and talking to a new person.
A lot of the openers I've seen in the PU community seem to come from a cocky-funny or alpha standpoint, and those aren't necessarily attractive attributes in females. I'm not looking for canned material, just ideas or pointers. Any thoughts?

what i would do is neg her. i had a girl use a canned opener on me before and i just look at her funny (squint and raise an eyebrow) and say "You know what? I heard the exact same thing yesterday from another girl. Are girls nowadays off all sudden trying to pick up guys? Cause if that's the case, just saying hi, wassup will do." then I get her to say "hi, wassup" and i do whatever it is that I do (neg, converse, neg, etc.)

something like that. and about approaching new people, look up the newbie mission posted in this section. the-newbie-mission-vt41556.html

anyways, i would neg her for being cocky&funny in another case. personally, i find that fun and attractive in a girl. 8)

i hope this helps.

Never underestimate the importance of the question. It is the engine which steers and drives a conversation. Without the use of questions, the conversation will stutter.

Try to think up as many stock questions and responses you can think of, and then when you get into a conversation with her you won't have to worry about being spontaneous.

Serph, I know you were being tongue in cheek, but I think you're right. I'm overthinking this crap. People aren't constantly on the lookout for creepy girls trying to hit on them, so a girl coming up and just saying "hi" to a stranger isn't a big deal. Canned material from a girl is probably super weird. I'm just going to say, "hey, what's up" to a bunch of random people this weekend and strike up conversations. This should have been blindingly obvious but hey. Thanks!

Hey Rishi, glad I stumbled on your post here.
First off, girls CAN used canned openers, most of the guys on here know canned material, but most of the guys you'll find in your scene won't. ^__~

I find the best thing is to make your own openers and use them. "hi" works really well for girls, but sometimes you need something for the guy to talk to you about.

Remember, most of the guys you're going to run into are going to be deer-in-headlights when a pretty girl talks to them. Give them something that doesn't scare them to talk about.

My best advice is find something you can display that won't scare them. I found I got a great leap in success after I started mentioning my nerdiness in regular conversation. I have a big ring that's a replica from an anime, so I'd use that to talk geeky for a bit. Guys LOVED it. I actually had a guy jump up and give me a huge hug when he found out I was a nerd.

So while girl's don't necessarily need openers, we need something the boys can talk about and something to de-scary us.

Cinnamon

P.S. Seraph, NEVER neg a girl who approaches you. That's a no-no. Even if it's canned material. The girl is showing CLEAR interest in you, don't neg her. Run with it.

C.Spice, I will keep that in mind from here on. Thanks.

And I TOTALLY agree with you about the nerdiness. I was just hanging out in the women's center for craft club on campus like 5 minutes ago and I realized that they are just as nerdy as guys after I made a Magic School Bus reference. They went on a huge tangent on it.

lol, deer-in-headlights. i like that reference. ahh, the odd old days.
