In my experience, it has always been beneficial to let them know ahead of time where you are in your life so they don't have any unrealistic expectations.

That can be very much a DLV depending on where you are in life to where people "expect" you to be.

Sure, it could be a DLV, but if you phrase it correctly with the proper tone, and at the 'right' time, it will have the opposite affect.

Who cares where people "expect" you to be?

Unless you let it be a DLV, it won't be. In the words of Dan Savage "Don't phrase it like you have Leukemia". This is something about you. If they want to be with you, then they have to accept that things are this way. If they do not want it that way, then they don't get to hang out with you, simple as that.

An example: A boy I picked up at a bar went crazy when I told him I don't do monogamy. I'm already in an Open Relationship, so there was no way I was compromising on that point, but I thought he was cool, so I told him "Look, if it goes against your moral code, then fine. I'm not gonna force you into anything. But I think you're cool and I'd still like to hang out with you". And what did he do? He backpedaled faster than a toddler who's heard it's cookie time. Suddenly it wasn't his moral code, it was more guide-lines (yes, he said that) and wakka wakka.

If you want/don't want something, be clear on it. And stick to it. If a girl doesn't want to interact with you because you don't want to stick a ring on her finger, sucks to be her. YOU CAN MOVE ON. Find another girl. They make up 51% of the population. There's more than three BILLION girls in the world. If you had sex with 1000 women every hour of every day, it would take you almost 350 YEARS to get through them all. I did the math.

Don't worry about not measuring up to a girl's expectations. She's the one who needs to measure up to yours.
