What can I do to prevent her from clamping up and refuse to even speak to me? |

Well if she is in fact shy, you need to set the tone and use a little more confidence in how you speak to her. After a while, her personality will come out and she will begin to some what mirror your behaviour. Be sure to continue to allow her to express herself throughout the conversation. |
