I dont know why this happens but most of the time when I am in a conversation, it takes a few moments for me to understand what a girl is saying. this isn't mid conversation, this is right at the beginning. so I say my opener the girl says something I react. I say something like "yeah" then I think "what did she just say?" and it takes a few moments for it to sink in, and then I go "oops, I gave the wrong answer. the answer wasn't yeah" English isn't my first language so I don't know if it's a language issue or if I am just nervous or lack of experience. to me, people mumble a lot. sometimes I can't understand conversations on tv either. anybody else here know what I am talking about? |

You are nervous and so your own thought have your attention rather than what the girl is saying. Just ask her to repeat herself, you didn't catch it, you're a bit nervous. Laugh it off. |

Just be honest and tell her to speak slow etc, she will understand that you're not native to her... |
