Post subject:  Asked the girl I liked to be my back-up prom date!
Help! I went on a date with the girl I liked but she doesn't know I like her yet. anyway, while we were talking, I asked her to be my back-up prom date because my prom is still a year from now. And right now, she's holding me against the words "back-up prom date"

Any tips?

I think its the "back up" part. You're basically saying that you will spend the next year looking for an upgrade but if you fail, you'll settle for her.

As for tips:
Apologise
Ask her out on another date and escalate.

If you went on a date with her - she knows you like her, moron. LOL

I don't ask people out that I don't like... why would you?

I don't really blame her for taking issue with the term 'back up prom date' either... it implies you've got your eye on someone else. If you're interested in her - which you are - and prom is a year away the correct thing to do would be to not mention prom at all - yet.

If you know you fucked it up, and you think she'll let it go without further discussion, just ignore it and pretend it didn't happen. Don't bring it up again.
