So my girl's birthday is in a couple days. We have been dating a year and official for like a week, but it was implied for awhile. She has playfully asked me to get her this candy she likes (not too too expensive but not 10 bucks) by saying things like "you better get me those or i'll have to go to the store myself i want em so bad!" and laughing. My birthday was a week ago. She got me a CD, a pair of shorts, a card, a cheap movie, and paid for dinner when we went out (though this wasn't in her initial plans for me). She also let me do whatever I wanted that day lol (not that I always don't lead anyway, she was just more vocal about it) Should I get her what she has been vocal about wanting, a card, and maybe a small stuffed animal? Would it be an AFC thing to do at this point? She probably spent like 30 bucks plus my dinner, so should I spend an equal amount? |

The best gifts have two characteristics: they are personal, and they are true gifts. They are things that a person wants (personal), but probably couldn't or wouldn't buy for themselves because the effort or money involved (true gift). The candy is not really a gift. A stuffed animal could work if she's really into that. |

Don't even worry about giving her a "beta" birthday. Do what you want to do. You're with a girl for a year and you're still trying to overthink shit, play games with your relationship. If you like her, give her a meaningful gift that would please. If you don't, then don't be with her. Dig into what she likes. You know her better than we do. If she ever mentioned that she wants to try something, go for that. When giving a gift, it's the thought behind it that counts. Don't just buy her something- a small stuffed animal? I've given girls stuffed animals as well, but that was when my mom still dressed me. If you can do a stuffed animal and candy in a special presentation, or as a supplement to something, then why not. Though your girl lacks in gift creativity as well, so I don't think she expects much. Good luck. |

You have been with her a year. Didn't she ever mention something she wanted or was interested in? Usually girls will drop not so subtle hints about things they want but don't want to spend money on or didn't pick up for whatever reason. What you spend is not as important as what you get, make sure its a personalized gift from you, something that her grandmother wouldn't buy her. GL |

The reason I have concern is, despite her getting me a few gifts and treating me kingly on my birthday, she has been demanding (in a joking manner) a specific gift "you better get me a ______ (laughs)" in a whiny tone. Any other time I would dismiss this as a shit test but I guess I can give in this time and walk up to her and go "just what you wanted"? |
