Post subject:  Should I delete facebook first?

Up until the age of around 14/15 I used to be really popular, but then my best friend died. I started smoking weed 24/7 to cope and now suffer from depression and social anxiety. Because of this I've spent the last 3 years doing practically nothing but go to school and then come home and stay in my room.

I just finished school and I want to start fresh. I've been working out for about 9 months and I already look much better than I did this time last year. I've improved my dress sense. I've gone from smoking 2-3 joints a day to 1 joint in the evenings, and I'm gonna cut down further after summer ends. I'm almost over the depression, but I still have terrible social anxiety.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to starting over again completely at university in a month. The problem is, I'm scared I won't fully be able to start over because any new person I meet will see my facebook, and will see that I was a loser in high school. The only wall posts I've had in the last 2 years have been people wishing me happy birthday lol...I'm tagged in a total of 7 photos spanning 3 years...I've had 6 profile pics...one of which has 2 likes, the rest have 0 and 0 comments. Also I went to an all-boys private school...so out of my 400 friends, about 30 are girls.

I know social proof is important, and my facebook basically just gives off the vibe that I'm a loser...everyone adds people on facebook as soon as they've met them, so I feel the first impression people get of me will be of my old life. At the same time I don't know about deleting my facebook because literally EVERYONE my age has one...people would probably find it odd (especially if they can pick up on my social anxiety at the same time).

Should I? Thoughts?

1. You want to start out new but will stop smoking after summer? That's already a sign of weak character- unless of course, that's the type of person you want to be in the future.

2. You care about your Facebook more than others do. Nobody's going to look at it and think, "Ah! This guy has no wall posts! He's a fucking loser." Facebook is irrelevant to disbelief. People aren't going to base their opinions of you on how many likes your profile pictures have. Focus on how you present yourself in person. Maybe in high school, when people cared more about popularity, it mattered a bit. When you're in the real world, you're going to be judged on things you do IRL, not virtually.

I used to have 1600 friends on Facebook, bunch of tagged pictures, and over 100 likes on each photo. With that said, I barely logged in on Facebook. Then I started dating this girl whom I actually gave a shit about. Once I posted a new picture, she would buzz my ears on how over 80 girls liked it in a day. Eventually we broke up, and I deleted everyone except for about 130 people. I stopped posting on it and it looked as barren as the Sahara. Once I moved, I added new people. Nobody ever said, "Yeah that's great! Hey, by the way, I always wondered, why do you only have 138 on your Facebook?"

You could take the time and delete your history on facebook. Granted, that won't fix the friends problem, but all the rest. Have some nice photos taken; maybe ask a professional, or meet some good friends and ask someone to bring a decent camera. If someone asks about your incomplete profile, just say it's because of privacy reasons, or because you don't want your life to be on display because of background checks of future employers, there are plenty of good reasons to do so.

my advice to you is to delete it..facebook is not useful when it game unless you are willing to work hard into socially proofing your wall.....real life gaming is the way.you will learn more and you will get more lays.i used to be the guy that games on facebook..i had little success sometimes goin on for 3 months without getting laid and there was a friend who did daygame..he used to get laid to a different girl every week...so give up on facebook...what you need now is sucess with women after that you make think of reactivating your account...

Everyone realizes Facebook is primarily for two things: keeping in touch with relatives/acquaintances you have no interest in seeing in person and finding out which of your friends are getting married and/or having a baby.

The only way Facebook will work against you is if you weaponize it against yourself. Someone I knew from elementary school posted this in the past week, "It's Thursday. Oh well, I guess. Celebrate?" "Only person here lol (tags himself at the bar)". "I'm going to go see 'Despicable Me 2', who's coming with me?" Zero replies.

Everyone has that one friend. So long as she knows you're not that guy, you're good.
