Now, I have never smoked weed and never taken any drugs. I go out at college and will drink etc...

I'm at college and have 2 house mates that smoke weed, pop pills etc... the other one was awesome until he became a bitch when he got a girl friend. Anyway, I find that so many people at college smoke weed, everywhere I go, every party it seems as though if you smoke weed, it is considered to be cool and seems to create a better social circle. When my house mates have people over, it's always to smoke, and it seems to work as they are a bunch of losers with nothing going for them in life at all, doing shit at uni, however, their cool approach and bonds with each other over this drug seems to get them the girls. This is a problem which I feel as though ruins my social circle at uni.

Ye I could find new friends or what ever, however, i live/work on the same course etc.. with these guys.

I get the feeling that they don't respect me so much because I don't smoke weed and also out of the circle as i dont provide anything to this.

It's a hard one to explain. But I'm not going to take drugs because I personally don't see it as cool at all. I have tried to be more aloof doing other things. But when everyone wants to go out etc.. its always the same.

Anyone else had this problem? Or have any suggestions on how to be a stronger social member without joining in these bad habits?

Seems to me like you are being judgmental of people based on what their extracurricular activities include

I realise that there is a lot of research about alcohol being more dangerous. However, I am against smoking completely, I hate it and this is the problem.

Why didn't you get roommates whose interests match yours? If they're into daily smoking, seems like conflict of interests was predictable. If you still want to be with them while they're smoking, grab a beer and join them. There shouldn't be much of a problem with that. When the bong, pipe, blunt, or a joint is passed to you, just keep passing it. Yeah, they'll probably initiate hanging out with you less than their weed-smoking friends, since they can always match, but when they're over your house that shouldn't matter. Either way, not trying to push anything on you, but you should try everything at least once before making your decision on doing or not doing something. Think for yourself, not what media or your parents might tell you.
