Man, the way to get over this is to forgive yourself first.. This is general to any mistake you have done really. If you can't forgive yourself for what you have done, you will never get over it. As for your girlfriend, girls will most likely cheat if you are not treating them the way you should. That doesn't mean doing being nice and getting them stuff all the time.
