most people these days have phones with touch screens.
but I have a flip phone. I would love having a smartphone, except I cant afford to have a data plan. AT&T requires a data plan with a smart phone. if you have a smartphone, you have to pay for a data plan, even if you dont need it.

so I am ashamed of taking out my phone. I feel like people will think I am poor (which I am, but dont want to disclose that within the first 5 minutes of meeting someone).
any comments?

first of all no one cares. If some one does then flip it. Tell them its retro or you lost your last phone and this is temp. Problem solved.

The moment you care what girls thinks, is the moment you start qualifying yourself to girls, which means you are trying to impress them, instead of the other way round. Don't mention if nobody brings it up.

If a girl won't sleep with you because you don't have a smartphone, she's either 14 years old or she's not worth bothering about.

Honestly I had the same exact problem. Consequently , I made an effort to buy a smartphone. I know it rationally makes no sense , but it helped me to get one , so I did.

In retrospect , I feel that flip-phones are the coolest phones ever created. Nothing compared to the feeling of flippin' the phone shut when you're done talking. However ,I also had the reason that a smartphone is useful to me cuz I'm a computer science student , so I use it for programming stuff and whatnot.
