Post subject:  Cold approach conversation - what should I have said?

I'm a first year at a university, I was alone in Subway and the server was a 8/9 HB. When it came to paying, this was the conversation between me and her. I felt like I gained rapport but failed to close :(

Her: Haha what did you do to your Sub card?! (it was pretty bent out of shape)
Me: I tried to use it as a guitar pick, didn't work out too well, glad it stilll works though!
Her: Oooh guitar huh? And you play basketball as well! (I had just come from basketball courts and was carrying a basketball) What if you hurt your fingers?
Me: That's a risk I'm willing to take. Best sport ever! By the way are you a student here?
Her: Yeah I go to *name of a rival college*
Me: Oooh I'm messing with the enemy! But people at *rival college* are more fun anyway. A lot of my friends are from there.
Her: Haha yeah we're awesome.
Me: Anyway I can't believe you're a first year and you've got a job! You're making me feel so lazy haha
Her: I used to have two jobs. The other one was one of those Jager girls at clubs but I didn't like that very much.
Me: Yeahh must have been terrible, people staring at you and thinking you're hot ;)
Her: Nah I don't really care about that.
Me: So...HYPOTHETICALLY if I said you were hot...you wouldn't care?
Her: Hmm depends, are you saying it?
Me: Haha yep! Anyway I can't leave this place without catching your name
Her: It's ***
Me: Ah cool, see ya around hopefully *** !
Her: Yeah, have a good night.

Should I have tried to get her number or was there not enough interest there? I don't even know why I bailed at the end. Any advice would be great, I tend to do this a lot. Build comfort and rapport and then bail without getting any of the girl's details :/

# Hmm I like the convo, but I don't see how it was due to your EFFORT? She seems to be picking you up?? I'll add some comments in it..!

Her: Haha what did you do to your Sub card?! (it was pretty bent out of shape)

# She is opening!

Me: I tried to use it as a guitar pick, didn't work out too well, glad it stilll works though!

# Are you trying to KILL the conversation?

Her: Oooh guitar huh? And you play basketball as well! (I had just come from basketball courts and was carrying a basketball) What if you hurt your fingers?

# She tries again??

# Good DHV though.

Me: That's a risk I'm willing to take. Best sport ever! By the way are you a student here?

# Finally you ask her something.. not very original though.. !

Her: Yeah I go to *name of a rival college*
Me: Oooh I'm messing with the enemy! But people at *rival college* are more fun anyway. A lot of my friends are from there.
Her: Haha yeah we're awesome.

# This is nice!

Her: I used to have two jobs. The other one was one of those Jager girls at clubs but I didn't like that very much.
Me: Yeahh must have been terrible, people staring at you and thinking you're hot ;)

# nice !

Her: Nah I don't really care about that.

She doesn't seem to like it?

Me: So...HYPOTHETICALLY if I said you were hot...you wouldn't care?

# Nice!

Her: Hmm depends, are you saying it?

Me: Haha yep!

# Here, I would rather NAG her: she's asking for it too much!

Anyway I can't leave this place without catching your name

# Kind of a nice phrase....

Her: It's ***
Me: Ah cool, see ya around hopefully *** !

# I would rather have you say:

OK *** we should drink coffee sometime! I want to get to know you. Here, write down your phone number and I will call you tomorrow.

Her: uhhh.. okay! (writing down number) ;-)

PS. make sure you have a back up plan if she doesn't respond. However don't give her time to reject you. Just remember the tons of woman waiting for you in the street! Maybe even say laughing: "Ok hard to get huh? Well if you're lucky I might try again next time!"

Then just walk away smiling! :-)

Let me know if this is useful for you and how you're doing?

Good luck!

It's all logistics. You have to have something specific to invite her out to. Screen her, and if she's cool then invite her along. That way you don't have to waste too much time or think about her too long. If she wants to hang out with you, great, if not then find the next girl. Too much takling kills it.

Go back again in a few days. She probably works there a lot and Subway is one of those places that people go to frequently.

If she asks why you are back, tell her you are on the Subway diet. Don't forget to order the most ridiculously low calorie thing on the menu short of a salad.

Ask her how often she works there. Tell her you'll come more often knowing she is on duty.

Your conversation was great. You should have continued it.

Holy sheeet :O thanks so much man! That really helped me understand what I did right and what I could improve on. I guess you're right though, this conversation definitely didn't arise due to my efforts haha she did open me.

"Her: Hmm depends, are you saying it?"
When you say I should have negged her at that point, can you give me an example of what would be considered to be an acceptable neg? (not too harsh, not overly subtle either)

I guess I shouldn't have bailed like that at the end, I'll definitely try what you said next time :) thanks a lot bro

Ahhh that's a good call! I did actually get the most ridiculously healthy option there haha, didn't even get any sauce with the sub :P

Great advice man, thanks a lot :)
