Post subject:  Server at a coffee shop near my home

I'm a foreigner in Italy, and I can't speak the language at all yet. I have coffee at the same place next to my home 3 or 4 times a week. Few days ago, I saw this HB9 from Ukraine working there.. One time I ordered a cuppucini there and there was a heart drawn with the foam.. When she gave it to me she smiled and left. Oh yeah my friend was there too but he didn't get a heart on it.. LOL So we exchanged few smiles the next few times and I tried to talk to her but she didn't know english at all. However, i managed to get her name. Everytime I go there I can see her looking at me and if I catch her doing that she would smile and turn her face. I know vibes are more important than the language barrier. How could I ask her to hang out sometime and take her number?

Do you have a smart phone with a translator app or an electronic dictionary or anything of the sort?

In my experience, if there is a language barrier it's best to be fairly if not very direct! The language barrier itself is like a tension-creating counterbalance to the direct interest.

Pantomime?

Point to you crotch, then at her, then to your mouth. I think the meaning will be obvious no matter what language she speaks.

Fair enough. I'll hold my phone up high and read off this in italian : " Dianne, I think your smile is beautiful and I would like to have drinks with you sometime around Navigli( Romantic part of milano). Give me your number and I will set up a meeting after my exams are done.."

The fun part about this is that she might find my accent funny and there will be mistakes in the sentence structure which will make the situation even funnier. What do you think?

Try it out and see for yourself!

If it works out well, how good would you feel about implementing YOUR idea without prior approval from some random cool dude on the internet? That would give you some major confidence points, huh?

Get into the habit of trying things before posting about them ;)

It's a great idea bud, especially if she's not used to being hit on by guys who have no idea how to speak her language, which might actually be the case.
