This seems pretty stupid and the reaction somewhat obvious. Note that a technique will not work all of the time, even if applied in the right manner. Human beings not machines.

This sounds a little apologetic to me. Some people say you should never apologize. I disagree, you should apologize, but only when you are wrong and/or caused harm. You did nothing wrong, you didn't cause her any harm, so why apologize (not saying you are, but it's good to realize nonetheless)? I think you could have continued the cocky/funny attitude and played it off, taking the "fuck off man" as a shit test instead of a rejection. Perhaps you could have said: "Easy there girl, I didn't slap you on the ass yet, so there's no need to spank me :P" and then change the subject (it's an opener right?). Maybe it's a waste of energy, but I see no harm in trying.
