Post subject:  Mindfucked by this Girl

It's been a while since I've needed any help from the community, but I've ran into a girl who's completely mind fucked me.

She's a year older than me, I see her at college quite a lot. I'd heard a while ago from my friend that she was interested in me (her sister knows the girl) We'll just call her "Jess"

A couple of weeks ago she started talking to me on facebook, made up some stupid excuse to talk to me, and after that we started talking on there for like a week or so - she'd always start the conversation first, and show the most interest (subtle flirting etc)

I refrained from complimenting her or showing much interest, mostly just teasing her, because I'm pretty certain that she's used to guys sucking up to her since she's really hot.

I spoke to her a couple of times in college when I saw her, but it was always really awkward because she hardly spoke.

Last Friday we were talking on facebook and when I had to go she gave me her number and told me to text her because her computer was being sent away to get fixed. So, a few hours later I sent her a text saying just saying "hi, it's [name]" (Now that i think about it, that was a really shitty opener). Got no reply, and she still hasn't replied. That left me kinda mindfucked because it doesn't seem to make sense that she would give me her number without me even showing signs I wanted it then not bother to text me back.

What's confused me further is that last night I was on the phone to my friend who was with one of Jess' friends, and she asked me "Are you talking to anyone right now" to which I told her no. I asked why she asked me today and told me that the Jess' friend had asked if I was talking to her, then apparently said something about her not texting me back.

I don't know what to deduce from this; did she intentionally not text me back and then tell her friend? Or did she forget to text back? If she did forget, why didn't she do it when she remembered?

If it was the case that she intentionally didn't text back then I really don't understand why. She was the one openly showing interest and offered her number without me even asking, so why would she then not text back?

The real question is, what do I do from here? She's probably going to be at a party I'm at next weekend, so I could speak to her then, or if I see her in college, but I really don't know what to say.

Hugely appreciate any advice you guys have to offer on this one!

Dude listen. She probably got your text and acknowledged it and put your number in her phone. Had you engaged her I'm sure she would've texted back.

You are seriously overthinking things. Majorly. Who the fuck knows what really happened apart from her? No one! You will never know. And it's not important that you know. What's important is that you just go for it. Ignore the "ignore" and just assume everything is OK. It probably is. If it isn't it will show and you can move on. Just make your move at some point. Invite her out to a bar or a drink or a coffee somewhere. Assume it's on.

Stop going by this gossip stuff and start acting like a man and take action as you see fit. You are mindfucking yourself. Mental masturbation really.

All that matters is that you know what you want from this situation, and when you're with her you at some point make your intentions clear. This could be as subtle as asking her out to a drink, to you telling her she's cute. However you see fit. This is literally ALL THAT MATTERS. Your perspective here and your intentions. If she seriously just lost interest, well move on.

Your next move? Just ask her out for a drink. Don't mention why she didn't text back.

Thanks, you're right, I don't know why I even let myself think that much about it, I should just maintain my frame and move forward as if it didn't happen. Would it be a bad idea to text her tonight and ask her what she's doing? Or should I wait until I see her in person to speak to her? The problem with the latter is that it's usually awkward when I see her in college, she just kinda looks at me, plus she's always with her friends.

What would the aim of your text be? What do you want to accomplish with it? If you have nothing to accomplish you have nothing to text about.

To re-engage her in conversation and set up a date. The only problem is that if that text gets ignored, it'll be awkward as fuck when I see her, which is inevitable.

Why will it be awkward as fuck? You are basing these claims on things you THINK you know, not things you actually know. How you interpret things has a lot to do with this. If she ignores it, you can just interpret it as she didn't check her phone or she forgot to reply. Whatever. No big deal. When you see her next time then, it's no big deal to you. You stay fun and open and friendly. If she isn't well that's her fault and tells you about her character, doesn't it?

Wow, I did totally overthink it. It turned out that I just saved her number wrong, the whole time she thought that I just didn't want to text her. Thanks for the advice Tr@veler, I needed someone to set me straight.

First off, why FB for a week without upgrading to phone?

Why text her when she gave you her number ?

Why freak over one unanswered text ?

a simple "hi" looks like trolling, and giving you her name let on that your urpose was just to text her to give you her number.

Step outta the digital age, and go old school....call her!

Because I wasn't particularly bothered about pushing the interaction. She gave me her number and said "text me", so I texted her. After that she didn't reply or speak to me for a week, when usually she would open a conversation on facebook.

Trolling: "The art of deliberately, cleverly, and secretly pissing people off, usually via the internet, using dialogue. " - I don't think saying hi to someone falls under that category, at least not where I live.

I don't understand what you said here, please elaborate

I love that line. I'm going to use it and pretend like I made it up myself!

@ OP, Trolling also means "Throwing bait into the water and pulling it along to see if you can get a bite!" I believe this is the context that mmo73 was using it in!

If a girl shots you down, or does not reply to a text is not going to deter a confident man. I take that as a little challenge and try atleast one more time. Sometimes shit tests are subtle.

Peace...
