| Post subject: | start uni in 9 days |
so i start uni on first of september this year and i understand there's already a uni/college thread set up but i just felt the need to start a new thread to discuss some of my questions/theories. first of all (a little back-round) i believe i will be sharing a flat with 4 other people, i will have my own en-suite and hopefully a lock on my door, it's only the dining/kitchen/living area/room that will be shared. i was wondering the best way to give off the best first impression to these people to come out as the alpha from the start (i'm a year younger than most people starting so i may be slightly dis-advantaged) i plan to wear light chinos and a light blue fitted shirt with blue plimsols, is this a good idea or is it too dressy? i don't want to look i just fell off the back of a lorry but i also want to give a good impression from the start if one of my flat-mates happens to be attractive enough to make a move on how should i approach it? should i wait to feel out the water and meet all girls before i make a move or should i get my foot in the door first? i also plan to have a party on the night we move in (it's a saturday) to start off a good reputation as being a fun guy who always has people round him and easy approachable. if one of my SPAM disagrees with this happening how should i go about it? i understand everyone will be nervous so i need to go out looking like i don't care and take the lead from the beginning (make stifler/van wilder proud) i am also weary on the fact that i don't want a reputation of being a total sleaze which is kind of the reputation i have where i grew up due to forgetful drunken nights where standards fall too the ground and 4's become 7's and too big becomes curvy. i'll update this post as time goes on and i think of anymore questions i feel need asked. but i just want to ask anyone who has been too/still at university, if you could start your first year of university again, what would you change and how would you go about doing it? thanks X |

Have you seen the movie Yes Man? Do exactly the same in college. Say yes to every opportunity to go out and meet people. Build a wide social network and you will get laid often. It's college, where all young people finally taste their freedom for the first time and willing to explore new and exciting experiences. As long as you don't fall into the temptation of video games like me and waste 4 years of college only to make a few close friend and 10 level 85s wow characters. I want those years back, but I can't. So use yours wisely. |

Lol your asking all the easiest questions to answer How do you appear alpha? Be the first to say hi, get acquainted with people and have fun How soon should you start hitting on girls? You should be doing it now, or when you first meet them, don't wait 2 years to approach one of them... And I wouldn't have started with the party, your just forcing your flat mates to accept something you didn't go over with them, and they own the house too, but if you have to try to give him $20 and say "sorry, how about you go eat out somewhere, my treat, if you don't want to your always invited to my parties" |

Just finished my first year and going into my second in a couple of days. I didn't live in an apartment but I did live in the dorms. I think I did a lot of things right but I also would have changed some stuff. So in the first week there was no school just orientation and school spirit stuff. Make sure you have plenty of booze, if you can supply people who don't, they will love you. I wouldn't suggest being too alpha because other guys might think your just cocky and dismiss you and you don't want to have no guy friends or wingmen in your first year. I'd suggest really just being yourself, but be SOCIAL even if you aren't that social. Introduce yourself to everyone (hot girls, ugly girls, guys) or at least say something. I know on my floor, the people who were the most social ended up being the most popular, no matter how cool or good looking they really were. You might want to make sure your flat mates are cool with you throwing a party too. You really want to be on good terms and to be honest, I can't even remember the person who had the first party. No one really cared or knew, they were more interested in who were the most social and interesting. So really just be social and confident. A lot of people just want someone to talk to, be that guy and you'll be set for the year. If you have any other question send me a PM. |

wow, thanks for the replies, yes i have seen the film and followed the rule for a week until a guy asked me out (somethings you can't say yes too no matter what..) and i've already had by lvl 115 runescape period and i plan to never return to it, caused nothing but awkward conversation and saying 'lolz' a lot when it wasn't needed i'm starting to go against the party idea now after your replies as it probably isn't the best idea and getting on bad terms with my flat mates from the start isn't a good idea, i agree. one other thing i was wondering was more how to decorate my room? the space will be limited so how do i make it a place that people (girls mostly) will feel comfortable in? i plan to keep it extremely clean (especially the en-suite) and well lit - is it girly to have fairy lights? i was also thinking about tie-dying my bed sheets with a scotland flag (if it's not too hard) or something colourful and eyecatching yet unique but would this also be classed as a bit bent? and what kind of posters would be a good idea to have on the walls? i quite like some banksy artwork and was also thinking of a mila kunis poster (she's hot as ****) and possibly the trainspotting "choose life" poster if anyone is familiar with it. i'll be grateful of any opinions X |

I start in Uni likewise in one week. I have a little question: There is always some sort of introduction where you hate to introduce yourself to the rest of the ''class''/''semester''. I hate the typical '' I am xxx, i am xx years old, i live in xx'' . Do you guys know of any other cocky funny or just funny way of presentating yourself? Also how do you guys think one should do with the clothse the first day? Just casual or a little above? |

Just abit of advice from my side. Try to be slightly more subtle with your application of seduction techniques- particularly with those females enrolled for the same course as yourself. It is best off not being know as the guy how wants to get into everyones panties -escpecially when you might be working with some of these people for the next 40 years. If it is a small campus i would advise against direct game- trust me, if unsuccessful half of campus might know about your failed attempt. All the best |

You could try " my name is xx and im from Xx and just because I flirt a lot doesn't mean I always put out" or "and I think we should take this relationship slow, I don't wanna get hurt" Just funny stuff you can say to the class that will get people's attention |

Good choice on the party, if your mates are cool with it, maybe have one in a week or two once people know who you are.i'm starting to go against the party idea now after your replies as it probably isn't the best idea and getting on bad terms with my flat mates from the start isn't a good idea, i agree. one other thing i was wondering was more how to decorate my room? the space will be limited so how do i make it a place that people (girls mostly) will feel comfortable in? i plan to keep it extremely clean (especially the en-suite) and well lit - is it girly to have fairy lights? i was also thinking about tie-dying my bed sheets with a scotland flag (if it's not too hard) or something colourful and eyecatching yet unique but would this also be classed as a bit bent? and what kind of posters would be a good idea to have on the walls? i quite like some banksy artwork and was also thinking of a mila kunis poster (she's hot as ****) and possibly the trainspotting "choose life" poster if anyone is familiar with it. i'll be grateful of any opinions X I decorated my wall with posters and stuff that I found interesting. They had a sale of a whole bunch of different posters and I got a little of everything. I also had a little fitness section because I'm into working out and all. The only time there was an introduction for everyone was when we met with everyone else on the floor and yeah we just said our names, where were from and something interesting about us. I mean it's not that big of a deal. Also how do you guys think one should do with the clothse the first day? Just casual or a little above? Don't worry about clothes or presenting yourself. As stupid and cliche as it sounds "just be yourself", I mean honestly you'll look like a poser if you try and be someone your not. |

Though I have a hard time comprehencing how to become the ''leader'' in uni. Is it just pure self confidence? |

i've always had a sense of humour and my answer for the question has always been the same when it comes to saying something about yourself, put on a sad looking face like you're depressed when you stand up and just say "hi, i'm ***** and i'm an alcoholic" i've used this every time and it always seems to get laughs if you can pull off a serious pose hahaAlso how do you guys think one should do with the clothse the first day? Just casual or a little above? X |

One advice from me, I know that probably everyone at home are freaking out and they are saying that you must study hard..... don't take this so seriously, that was my mistake in the beggiining and I forgot to go out it didn't end well..... but as long as YOU are happy with your grades and YOU are going out and YOU ARE HAPPY, YOU ARE DOING IT RIGHT |

just started today for the first day of freshers week! must admit the quality of girls is quite uneven, they are either really ugly or really hot with a few middle of the rangers however, the halls i was moving into are all brand new and unfortunately they are not open in time for our arrival and there is around a weeks delay before we can get in. because of this i have not met any SPAM and been placed in temp accommodation that makes me feels like i'm on the cast of porridge, feels like a prison. so because of this i hardly know anyone apart from 2 people who i'm going out with tonight. any ideas on how i could get into another group and some good openers considering everyone is new and all in the same boat thanks X |

Im going into my fourth year of uni, which uni you going to? it might already have a PUA lair set up you see. As for first couple of weeks, don't focus on trying to lay with anyone, just make friends (especially with the ladies) the more social groups you get into, the more sex you will get later on in the year (trust me on this one) so focus on becoming good friends with a lot of people first couple of weeks. In my second year I was getting number close ect a damm lot cause when I went to a specific night club I just knew easily 3/4 of the place and as a result I was the guy everyone wanted to know cause I introduced everyone to each other. So sign up to lots of social societies. |
