This is a tricky one guys. Basically I asked out my best girl mate. She is moving to New York in January and I just completely went crazy. I regret it hugely now but it's obviously too late. She told me that she does fancy me but she doesn't want to be in a long distance relationship because it would be too stressful. However saying that, she seems to be a bit off with me now. I don't want to ruin our friendship because she means a lot to me. I made a mistake and I was hoping that you guys could give me some advice/tips on how to sort this situation out? |

"I don't want to ruin our friendship because you mean a lot to me. I made a mistake" If you don't want a relationship other than friendship from this it is important to just be honest to her about your feelings and nothing more. Tell her why you thought you could be more than friends but acknowledge that the impulse reaction to that feeling wasn't well thought out. If you try and smooth over any cracks with half truths SHE WILL KNOW so be honest. If this works out and you remain friends you will be stronger for it, if she distances herself from you emotionally in the long term then the foundation of your friendship isn't as strong as you may have thought and letting go might be the best course of action (however hard that may be). |

Thanks a lot for the quick reply. I have been honest and I think that's the problem; too honest. I am going to Ireland at the end of August with some friends and she will be there. I just don't want it to be awkward between us. I guess I just have to roll with the punches and hope for the best. Isn't life a bitch lol. Thanks again. |

If you are hoping that something more than friendship comes from this then my advice would be different but if you are truly wanting to just keep a friend then maintain all the openness that you can. I don't think that there can be "too much" honesty between friends but then again that may just be my opinion. I hope you get the resolution that you want from this and I wish you luck! |
