What do people think or feel when they hear the term pick up artist?
To girls and guys.

Can it just be chill, like yeah I'm a player or lady's man?
or do they think its something creepy related to a secret community, social science

Is there a difference between being called a pua or player? do the words have the same connotation?

There's no respect being called a player.

When most people hear the term "pick up artist" they think of a creepy, socially robotic, misogynist with an unjustifiably large ego who measures their entire self worth based upon the notches on their bed post.

Probably

I hate the term "pick up artist." It's awful. I'm just a guy that wanted to get better socially.

PUAs are heralded as the height of cool with their abilities to attract women, when in actual fact they're the total fucking losers who failed to develop social skills normally like the rest of society.

I like the term artist, but not pick up artist, because I think it definitely is an art. More of a social artist to me, but what do I know?

My experience is probably similar to of most people: Women treat players with caution, men treat them with a certain level of respect.

I always associated the term pick up with prostitution (my first language is Russian and translated directly it's often used in regards to prostitution). I think "pick up artist" thrusts out general interest and caution. People are generally concerned with those who have studied any sort of manipulation.

It's dumb...utterly dumb. Bad bad connotations.

Are you a "PLAYER?"

Girls think you are using them, toying with them etc. Ironically if you are smooth, you shouldn't get this objection but there's times I'm so direct, it happens. Girls in some ways want the "player"/guy they think is a player because it shows some level of social proofing...but at the same time it reveals some girls never wanna touch that guy...

Before I read my first PUA material several years ago, the term 'pick up artist' for me meant a scammer or crack pot. It was a case of seeing preposterous claims by some men who look like weird, 50-year old virgins who can't get laid hypnotizing a goat. They also appear to be over eager in getting your $100 to $500 through blatant, text book marketing techniques as Robert Cialdini describes these.

I got introduced to my first PUA material, David DeAngelo's Double Your Dating, for free when a chick I'm sarging online pointed out that I'm using Cocky and Funny on her. After skimming the book, I've realized that most of DeAngelo's techniques are grounded on science. Although he did not reference any scientific journal, I've read those journal articles before and that's how I knew DeAngelo wasn't spewing bullshit from his arse. That's the time when I started internalizing DeAngelo techniques really well.

The chick thought I was an asshole though. So, there's your answer from two people who have encountered pick up artists and their first impressions.

Keywords: Scammer, Crackpot, Asshole
