Post subject:  British guys travelling to the States

Hi Guys,

I'll be travelling to the US with a friend in July for a couple of months. We're both from London and this will be our first time in the US. I've had pretty good success with women over the last year or so, gaining in confidence and getting my head around beating approach anxiety.

We are heading out to have fun and will be spending around a month on the east coast: New York, Boston, Washington and then heading into Florida. Although i'm not expecting women to throw themselves we have heard that women pretty much adore the British accent - I suspect this to be an exaggeration.

Ideally I'm hoping that the accent will make opening easier, but i'm also wondering if its really that big a DHV?

A lot of American girls seem to adore my accent when I've met them. It makes opening easier, because you can simply ask for directions and a lot of the time get a "Oh you're from England!" type response which leads to a good conversation.

I find American people in general to be very friendly and more receptive to strangers than British people, and I am an Englishman born and bred.

In fact, I'm going out to New York and New Jersey in August to stay with a beautiful American girl I met before christmas, and she is still missing me like crazy and wanting to see me.

I actually cannot tell the difference between Irish and American. Unless the accent is really thick.

I have a pretty crisp London accent, grew up in west london and i'm sure i'll 'english it up' when i'm actually out there.

As I said, I think it'll be a good icebreaker - in the UK we are sort of brought up with the image that American girls adore the accent, i'll have to wait and see.

Can anybody recommend any bars / clubs in New York where New Yorkers actually go - I know in London that the clubs in the summer tend to get a high intake of tourists - I'd love to avoid the tourist traps.

Many thanks guys!

Just be friendly and nice and play the game as normal. You don't need specific "I'm an English guy" routine or anything. Though you can make plenty of jokes about the stereotypes, like asking if places sell tea and crumpets and things like that. Pretty lame I know but sometimes gets a laugh.

Americans have an unfair negative stereotype in Britain due to our media and British comedians on TV and stuff, so just generally show an interest and don't act like you think all Americans are fat and uneducated and you'll do fine :P
