Post subject:  Long Distance Dilemna

I've been at my current job for over a year. Great Job with really good pay. The only crappy part is I'm away from home 6-8 weeks at a time and only get a week or so home before I go back to work for another tour.

Most of my pickup is done in bars while I'm away at work so I never really consider any of my girls as potential partners.

I met a girl though that I'm super interested in while I was home on vacation. I want to see what can become of our relationship. I try to temper my enthusiasm but I haven't had this kind of connection with a woman for quite some time.

The issue is, I'm gone alot. I would love to date her, but because of work and the distance I'm afraid I may be jumping into a relationship that is setup to fail straight from the get go.

General thoughts on long distance relationships? Bad idea or seize the moment?

I've tried long distance relationship and it sucked. I know plenty of people who couldn't make it either. However I know one couple that has been doing quite well. They see each other about once a week or two weeks. It's really up to the people involved, and how strong that connection is. If I were you I wouldn't try but only because I know that it didn't work for me. Instead I suggest you try it and get first hand experience about what it is like to be in such a relationship. You can learn lots of things from it, and maybe when it is time for you to get married, and a situation like this occurs, this experience will help you manage things better.

Thanks for the response. Figured I'd give it a try. My thought process is that theres no garuntee's that I will always be home. So if she can deal with it now, she can deal with it later on in the relationship.
