Post subject:  Going for the Forbidden Fruit: Your Ex'x best friend...

So I had a falling out with a girl recently, (Let me clarify that we weren't technically dating, but we hung out/kissed - never past that. For ease of writing I'll be calling her my ex though.), and we no longer talk. It wasn't really a "bad" fallout, but There's still a level of awkwardness around the whole situation.

On Friday night I went to a birthday party at my ex's house for her best friend. Now it was actually a pretty shitty party, and the best friend got stupid drunk. After helping her out for a little bit (she had the spins), I had to drive my friend home (I was DD don't worry). I decided however that I thought the best friend was pretty cute and I want to try to get her to go to prom with me, half out of spite for the ex, and half because I'm actually into her.

Here's where it get sticky. Everyone thought me and my ex were going together, including me, so I'm pretty short on time to ask her to prom. It really has A LOT of power I've realized, especially considering she's only a junior. I started a conversation the other day, asking about the night before and slowly morphing it into just an average conversation, but she stopped texting after a little while. I want to try and build rapport, but I also don't want to seem needy. Also, there's always the "I can't do that to my best friend!" drama to deal with.

We have talked, but not really exclusively. She's complimented me on my style saying "I have wear the best shoes and jeans in our school". She sometimes compliments my outfits as well. I have it set up that if i pushed it a little, I could go to her family owned restaurant with her, but again, don't want to seem needy. Also, I was kind of hoping to use that as the kicker after we built up a little rapport. Make it an actual date, like say we can smoke before then eat and chill after.

So here's my questions:

1) How hard do I chase after her?
2) How do I make her see me and not my best friends ex?
3) Any tips on the whole situation?
4) My current plan is to have her other friends who actually like me to talk me up to her, especially since one of my best friends (who's in the same boat, only he got played a little harder by a girl) is taking a close friend of hers. Does that sound like a good play to you?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. - Please don't get on your moral high-horse here, I just advice...

1) You don't have to chase her hard. But make it known that you're into her. Chicks your age LOVE attention. Even if she plays it off like she's not interested, she'll be flattered.
2) Don't view her as your ex's friend and she won't see you as her friends ex. Know what I mean?
3) This will almost certainly cause drama -- use your discretion. I don't think there's anything wrong with it if you've never technically dated, but I guarantee she will not be impressed.
4) I wouldn't rely on others to do your work for you. If they talk you up, that's great -- but don't tell them too. The ball is in your court.

good luck
