Post subject:  Why Does The Internet Turn People Into Keyboard Warriors?

You know, there's this whole thing that I find absolutely fascinating.. it's called the internet. It turns people into anonymous Keyboard Warriors. Let me give you a quick example to start this off.

At A Bar
- Some drunk guy with the cool backwards hat approaches a girl and slurring his words hits on her.
- Girl is nice but clearly not interested. The guy she's with is standing behind her just laughing and giving her a funny look while she pretends to be listening to him.
- Girl eventually says "sorry but I'm just here to hang out with friends" or inserts some other random lie.

I rarely ever see girls just blatantly say "Not interested, move along" or anything along those lines. They're usually very nice about it.

On The Internet
A perfect example is a place like Myyearbook where people can ask questions and it'll post on a public wall.

- Some guy asks "sup girl wanna kick it at my place?"
- Girl responds "fuck off moron"
Woah.. what a difference.

The Internet

So my question to you all is, what is it about the internet that turns people into these anonymous Keyboard Warriors who believe they're protected behind a wall of bandwidth. Hell, I remember the story of someone getting stabbed because he was killed in a MMO (Massively Multiplayer Online) game.

I don't spend much time on online dating anymore, because I don't have a lot of "fun" pictures to put and it's far easier to convey personality in person than it is on a profile. I'm not the greatest at writing funny or eye-catching profiles. Which is ironic because for a while I made a living as a decent independent article and content writer.

Places like 4chan have ruined lives. We see it all starts with one person posting a picture of someone or someone's phone number. I have literally watched a thread in there, where people obtained a guys credit card, financial data and literally ruined his life all because someone posted his phone number. People have had their homes vandalized and worse because of things posted online.

So what is it about the internet that turns people from.. well.. people to what I call "Keyboard Warriors?"

Guys do it too but women especially. I rarely see girls lash out at guys hitting on them in person like they do online. Is it that computer screen where they feel they're completely safe? Sure, most of those guys just move on but there are some people in this world who will kill people for less of a reason than that (if they need one at all).

Perhaps it's just my experience or being around the wrong people but I have ended up in places which usually start out as a party and end up in a less desirable place. I've met some nasty low down people that truly are scary. These are people who will shoot you and simply walk away, never losing a night of sleep.

Yet, no one ever thinks that these people exist when they're on the internet, or they truly believe it would never happen to them.

It's more because that's the true side of someone; everyone put's on a 'fake' personality on when they're in public because they want to be accepted by society, when someone is online they don't have to conform to rules about proper behavior and laws - so you see how that person really is

Actually it can quite often be the opposite where people explore their ideal selves (the selves they always wanted to be) within an environment where there's very little to no repercussions for their behavior (provided they aren't anchored relationships where people know the person offline).

Ideal self and the real/true self are more often than not incongruent.

I feel some people on here have this issue with internet anonymity...

1. They're anonymous
2. The person can't punch them
3. A huge majority of internet gaming geeks have big inner game issues, so being a cunt makes them feel better. This is exactly what you want frame control in real life, you don't want to start a fight with an AMOG because if it does it shows you are weak and DLV. Same thing here. If you get into stupid arguments online it looks like you have problems. Debating is different.

Number 3 is the bigger reason. The hardcore internet gamers have no life etc etc and are probably angry at themselves at becoming like that so they can take it out on people online or try to amuse themselves and get into an online argument.

Not here to slag people off but I'm stating the facts.

Some people couldn't diffuse their anger in real life hence, they use the internet. In real life, they just don't have the balls to do it. They could get fired. They could be put in jail or they could get mauled.

In my local context, the guy who says fucktard or moron straight to your face gets knifed or taken down immediately. The real life hotheads usually don't utter those words. They just go ahead and hurt you. Meanwhile, the internet hothead is a different breed. He or she can't get hurt.

Real life is just like the UFC or boxing. You seldom see a loudmouth hothead win fights. Usually, it's the silent badass who kicks ass.
