I always took it as a way that it means revealing your insecurities or sharing intimate details that might be used against you if the relationship goes south.

Yes, and its extremely attractive to them. Not only is it the best way to establish deep, meaningful rapport with somebody, it also demonstrates that you aren't fearful of revealing your vulnerabilities. On the other extreme, a person who refuses to disclose usually exhibits some form of psychopathology; we all experience anger, we all experience joy and elation and everything in between, anyone who portrays to the contrary is using a lot of psychic energy and if anything will come across as inauthentic, removed, withdrawn etc..

If however you open up right away (a case of too much too soon) one could usually infer that you have boundary issues and that can certainly serve as a glaring red flag.

The bad boy's edge is that he is hard on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside. But, and this is a BIG but, he only rarely opens up his vulnerabilities. When he does open up, he lets the girl know that she IS the only girl who knows about his vulnerabilities. He makes her feel special and unique by using this opening up as a reward for the girl's efforts because she EARNED it.

I can tell a GENUINE bad boy from a fake one because I'm one. YOU are the real deal. Just remember that simple rule. She has to earn it. :twisted:
