Post subject:  Club Promotions

Hey guys, I'm looking to change careers from the Law Enforcement side to Club Promotions but I have no idea how to start getting involved. Anybody have any pointers or advice on how to go about getting into this new career?

Go to clubs much? You need to. You need to get to know all of the club owners, bartenders, cocktail waitresses, security guards, local celebrities, club regulars and everyone else who are in the clubs constantly. No pick up, just get to know them and getting their numbers/email. On top of that, you should be a regular at the bars/clubs yourself and getting to know everyone you can. I suggest just schmoozing and no drinking. The most important thing is expanding your social network exponentially! Everywhere you shop, everywhere you eat, everywhere you go, you should know people. Oh and be known as a good tipper. At the same time, think about what kind of promotions you want to do. There's concerts, dj's, fashion shows, promotional nights, celebrity guests, sports events, and so on. Also, start talking to local promoters and pick their brains but don't let them know what you're up to. From my experience, they are very territorial. But club mangers and owners are not. They will switch promoters quicker then their drink menu.
There is so much involved. If you like I can put you in touch with a few promoters from Denver, CO that you can talk to as long as you aren't in Denver lol. Finally, I should mention something. I was never a promoter but I did work as security in a few clubs back home in Denver and I noticed that the promoters that failed all had the same habits. They were too demanding (expecting celebrity SPAM themselves instead of for their guests), were horrible tippers when there wasn't an event going on, didn't know too many people on a level above customer, didn't make an effort to meet everyone, acted like a promoter instead of a social connector, made enemies with at least one club owner (even if owners are competing against each other, they still talk. And when they talk, they trade a lot of information), and even lying about details.
That is the extent of the information that I feel comfortable giving but PM me your info and I'll get you in touch with the good promoters that I personally know. I'm almost positive that they will give you some help and ideas. Good luck and I'll be waiting for your message.
