So I have a problem. I was supposed to have a double date tonight, and I'm taking a rather attractive woman out tonight, and a friend on mine (actually, my room mate), had his date(s) cancel on him, and can't find a new one. The girl I'm going with kind of assumes we're going to this alone, and my roomie wants to take the same car. We've been friends for a really long time, and he just went through a really tough divorce. He doesn't get out much, but still, I know that if I take this girl out and I'm like "yes, so this is my friend, he's going to join us on our date", that it's going to destroy any chance of me seeing her again, since this is our first date (and obviously make this date VERY awkward). My friend and I have had this planned for a long time, and I'd hate to be an ass to him, but in all honesty it's not my fault his date canceled on him; and I'm rather interested in this girl. I'm sure I'll just have to man up and tell him I want to take separate cars and meet him there, but if anyone has any advice on how to do this in a more subtle way, I'd really appreciate the advice. -Jace |

Hey, I'm new on this forum, but from what I understand your friend is still coming to whatever it is you're going to - you just want him to get there on his own - and that's a totally reasonable request on your part. Your friend should understand. You're not being an ass at all here, in my opinion. |

I agree. And if you know of any female friends who he could go with, that would be even better. Don't worry about sounding like an ass though, because it seems like you know the situation well enough and can soften things up enough to where it won't be a problem. |
