Post subject:  Admitted to girlfriend I would marry her...

Around a quarter of a year ago she told me it would be her dream to marry me and that she wants it more than anything in the world.
At that point I could see a future with her, but hated the idea. So I said
"Let's just see how we go"

A few days ago, I slipped up in a moment of happiness/love and said "I wouldn't mind marrying you, you rock" blah blah because she did something very respectful which in my experience most girls would not have done. It wasn't this only event of course, it's that I love her for a million little things and sort of realised I can see myself with her for a long time.

She smiled, and kept bringing it up later. She was obviously very happy.

But - although I meant it, I now I regret it. I love her and can see myself with her in the distant future - but have I put too much pressure on the relationship?
Have I lost all power in the relationship and will she take me for granted now?

Damn, I feel like I've given too much of myself away, or something.
What are your thoughts?

Hey, there's nothing wrong with rewarding good behavior. If she's been awesome to you, then there's nothing wrong with saying something like that (if you meant it). It's actually a sign of leading well.. letting her know that the way she is acting is working for you. Discussing future plans is not bad in itself as long as you are clear about your expectations.

For example, I pretty much told my girlfriend that I would marry her, but I also told her it was contingent on the relationship staying as amazing as it is now. I also told her we'd have to date for at least 4 years before getting married. If my relationship is still awesome after 4 years, then, hell yes, I will totally marry her, despite my dislike for the whole institution.

I don't believe I gave up any power in the relationship by admitting that.

Don't bring it up if she doesn't. If she brings it up, you can smile and kiss her and leave it at that.

First advice, don't say things you don't mean. Second advice, she doesn't expect you to marry her soon (unless you've been dating for years) so don't worry about it. A lot can change in that amount of time, relax and let things happen, one way or another.
