I got transferred to a new university this year, and now I have many friends from different countries. I have been seeing a Russian girl for the past few weeks and things are getting better. She invites me to dinners and parties with her Russian friends a lot of times. The problem is that they speak Russian while I do not understand a word, and I'm starting to think that is really annoying. When they start talking Russian, after they are done they realize that I didn't understand a word so my friend translates for me. But few minutes later they start talking their language again. This happened to me with different people too, and I always ask them to talk in English or translate to me. How can I deal with this? All of them can speak English but they just decide to speak their language :S |

Boy! I have seen this too. This is always gonna happen and it is not intended to exclude you or anything. It just happens unintentionally. The solution is either to be so fun that you are the center of attention and they have to move into their world, or you learn russian. Are you gonna stay with her for a long time or are you just playing? Is it worth the effort? |

True, I do believe they are not doing intentionally, because this happened to much more influential people I know. It doesn't mean they are doing it to piss me off or anything, but I do get pissed when it happens and try not to show. Last time it happened I just opened my phone and started talking to no one in my language, I started texting and laughing loud, and I went talked to her mom in the kitchen when she was making dinner! I don't know if it will be a long relationship, still too early to decide, and russian is a damn hard language to learn lol |
