Post subject:  Mutual friend asked me if I liked a girl we both know

So, I was talking with a group of my friends yesterday, and we started talking about one of our friends, Lauren. She wasn't there at the time, but she is known to everyone in the group.

One of the guys (a total AFC) turns to me and asks me whether I liked this particular girl, Lauren. I've been getting on well with her recently and I think he might be a bit jealous.

I think he was trying to embarrass me in front of the whole. Anyway, I didn't get embarrassed and I managed to dodge the question, without giving a yes or no answer.

My question is: would you admit to a group of mutual friends that you liked a girl in the group?

My fear would be that a couple of jealous AFCs in the group would tell the girl that I liked her and then try to destroy my reputation because of resentment.

Advice appreciated.

Women like being wanted and they are very insightful, so if you do like her, she can already tell and is just waiting for you to act on it. Even if she doesn't like you back, worse case scenario, she is flattered. I don't understand how it would be such a big thing, for her to know you like her.

I can understand wanting to tell her that personally, rather than have her hear it second hand from the group. That makes sense to me, but if that was important to you, than you would have already let her know that, instead of waiting for your mutual friends to pick up on your feelings for her. If your friends can see it, then she definitely can too. So just do something about it already, she's right there and waiting.

That being said, your mutual friend isn't trying to "ruin" you. He obviously has feelings for her too, sees that you two are getting along, and wants to know if you are going to pursue it further or not, because (even though he may not have the confidence to ever actually go through with it) he is considering pursuing her as well.

Wow. That was well said.

Yeah I would say yes, but only if I actually did like her. Being honest will literally never steer you wrong.

There are VERY FEW people, even the best of friends that you will ever trust when it comes to your love life.

No I'd neither admit nor deny, just say something like ' where did tht question come from, are you interested in her' and the start pulling his legs !

Thanks for all the answers. However, I agree with the above. I think the best answer to give in this situation, when asked by a group of friends whether you like a girl, is to dodge the question and say something along the lines above.
