Post subject:  Just did, Newbie mission and have followup questions

Ok guys so I went out today and gave it a shot, I said hi to 4 girls.

1, croaked out a hi as I walked pass
2, said hi and waved as I walked pass
3, turned around in a line and said hi! Nice shirt! then turned back t my front and walked away. Feet were pointing forward the whole time.
4, I don;t remember what I did lol.

All the girls in the shops don;t count because I chat to them all the time anyway, it's like hairdresser talk.

I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS! Please answer them I'd appreciate it heaps!

1, What am I supposed to be doing after saying hi? I'm trying it but the girls are expecting me to say something and if I don't I come off as weird. Can I just get away with 'Hi, some shitty comment about the situation"?

2, I'm caring more about the other random people in the crowded shop thinking why am I randomly sying hi to someone I don't know. Is this Newbie mission supposed to teach me how to not give a fuck or am I missing something here?

3, When I'm walking down the street/shopping center/in a store I can't get eye contact. The only people who will look me in the eyes are the big 6ft guys with shaved heads! (ok exaggerating but you get the idea) Am I supposed to be saying hi to these people?

EDIT:1/5/2012 Thanks for the replies guys. I know it's frustrating having a noob ask these obvious questions but it's helped me out heaps. I haven't posted this since I got the answers I was looking for and don;t need to bump it.

1) Yeah anything. As you get more used to starting conversations, these things become easier, but situational stuff is fine for the purposes of the newbie mission - I think the general point of it, as far as I understood it, was to get you talking, not to worry about what you're talking about. The girl who had a nice shirt, just say something like "where did you get it from?" then start talking about shops and stuff like that.

The newbie mission doesn't HAVE to be a massively long conversation, and it doesn't have to lead anywhere. It's just basically talking about something with someone, getting used to talking to people.

2) This is more important than 1 imo. Most people at first would be the same as you, worrying about what others thought. But answer me this - did anyone in the shop react strangely to you? I doubt very many did - most people don't care about strangers in situations like that. If they DID react strangely, I reckon all they probably did was give you a strange look and then walk straight past? What I'm trying to get at is that firstly, not very many people will have cared about it whatsoever. Secondly, if they DID give you a dodgey look, they still haven't impacted upon your life in any meaningful way.

3) I can't remember if the newbie challenge specifically says do it with women, but in real practical terms, the more people you speak to, the better you'll become at speaking to people. It's not difficult. Lots of people start with "safe" options, hairdressers, shop assistants, old people they sit next to on the train, that sort of thing, because there's no attraction, you're not worried about messing it up with a girl, you're just having a conversation. So it doesn't really matter who you're talking to.

Go out and do this 96 more times THEN come back with questions.

Thanks guys. Both of you. 7000, that answers everything perfectly. Warped, I'm going to start counting how many people I say hi to until I hit 100 as thanks for this advice.

I just posted this same response here and I think it will help you: aa-is-still-fucking-me-over-after-this- ... highlight=

There are a couple techniques you can use to get out of your head and talk to more girls without fear. These are ones that I personally use.

1) Talk to everyone
2) Compliment and walk away
3) Record your results

1 - Talk to everyone: When I am in a public place like a grocery store or a starbucks I know that there is a chance I might see a beautiful girl. So to prepare for that beforehand I just game everybody. The old lady picking through the vegetables doesn't give me approach anxiety so I say to her, 'hi, i am looking to eat some different veggies lately, any good ones that you recommend?' The person who I am walking by will probably think it is funny if i say, 'excuse me sir' in a dramatic tone of voice and the mom carrying groceries with kids will probably laugh when I walk in front of the doors which automatically open and say, 'hey let me hold this door for you.' By the time I have started that many conversations it gets easy to talk to the girl.

2- Compliment and Walk Away: Just walk up to the girl with an intent to compliment her and walk away. 'Hi, I saw you and just wanted to say that I think you carry yourself really well." Then smile and walk away. This is a warm up set. Maybe she will sense that you are leaving and try to get you to stay and talk. Who knows?

3 - Record your results. Sometimes you only realize how few girls you actually approach when you record your results. So go ahead and make a promise to yourself to talk to 10 new girls a week. Record all of you results. This is the most important tip.

You didn't do nearly enough... 200 more would def be ideal.

Thats like doing 1 push up and expecting to see a change in your body.
