Post subject:  Is PUA really skill, or just sheer numbers?

Hi, I have been aware of the "community" and stuff for a few years now, i just got out of high school (where much of that stuff was effective to some extent) and now im into college. However, in college there is a lot of finding yourself and I began to wonder about things. I found myself obsessing over my persona, my style, my posture, my actions because of PUA. I then asked, is it worth it, what IS pua REALLY?

PART 1:
If I had the belief that PUA is about finding and being able to present your "better, real" self to women, then maybe I would actually put skin in the game. But every time I try, and I do try, (and believe me, ive done cold approaches to college girls at a college with a ratio of 3 guys to every 1 girl) I get the feeling that suddenly it isnt about showing off your attractive personality, but that its more about numbers, and that eventually, with enough tries, you'll get some closes. But at a relatively small college, one doesn't get that many tries, AND one may alienate himself from other prospective HBs by becoming known as that guy.

PART 2:
Now realize I have had success in college, i had several bjs and hook-ups in the first 3 weeks, but none of this was accomplished using my "PUA" tactics, it was all just me being me, however, these were average girls, with weak or no competition. As soon as I found a moderately high value chick (7.75 or higher) my regular self began trying to impress, and it wasn't successful. With 3 guys for every one girl, serious competition developed around campus. I was afraid that being myself wasn't good enough. So i dipped back into PUA. But what I found was that not only did i not enjoy myself due to the anxiety and obsessive self-checking of myself as "what would a pua be doing?", i also had no success with girls at all.... Failures, every night. Then one night, I just threw in the towel, and decided to not try, and as SOON as I stopped trying, things just worked. A girl noticed ME, flirted with ME, and then a few days later it was her and I in the room undressing.

PART 3:
So here's the rub. Is PUA really about skill? Is it about trying? or is it just about getting guys to swing enough times that they eventually get a hit. I want to believe that EVERY girl is gameable and workable and hittable, but at a school like mine, time isnt on my side, and girls are few and far between, you cant just waste your chances by walking up and swinging.

What are your thoughts, advice, or feelings about this?[/i]

You can increase your chances by have good inner and outer game, there's no doubt about that. But an average guy can still have success rate, such as 1/15 or whatever. PUA can help you dramatically increase the success rate if you're just another AFC.

Skill is important but of course, the more you interact the more you get somewhere.

Then again your skills increase when you get more experienced.

PU is real, it is more than just numbers.

repetition + accuracy

or

hard work + intelligence

or

Numbers + Skill

Of course numbers matter but so does skill, all we can intelligently debate is the proportions.

I agree with detox and ezo, this should be pretty obvious. Every guy in the world no matter how big a loser can usually get a girl if he approaches 1000 different girls, There has to be one of them that will sleep with him. So lets say it's only 1 in every 50 that will. PUA will help you get that 1 in 50 down to 1 in 5

I don't want to do a diatribe, but I would like to answer your questions and the points that you make, and i'll try to keep it as short as possible.

PUA isn't about numbers as much about finding a style that works for you that makes it smooth and not a numbers a game. It's a numbers game in the beginning, especially as you're starting to get your flow. It's the discovery of what works for you. Even if you deliver the same routine, your vocal inflection, your posture, your ability to project your voice, all occur through the numbers game. However, you'll eventually find a style that is you. That is the main problem I see with the world of PUA, it either wants people to jump into being a Natural, or it wants them to rely on routines and methods others created.

PUA was created for guys that didn't have social skills, then it became about nailing the hottest girl around. But, what made me move away from things like Mystery Method and Style Life was the belief that you have to have different game for different levels of beauty. I believe in a more David X game, treat them all the same.

In short, PUA is a structure for men to learn what works for them and to discard what doesn't. It gives them strategy that will work if they approach enough women, but then, what that also allows them to do is learn and better their own skills and inner game, to the point that they then begin to approach, talk to, and leave a girl before escalating anything if they see it not going anywhere, and going off to another woman.

So, it is a numbers game in approaching, but, one learns valuable skills to rarely get rejected, because they can callibrate where that person is that, to the point that they know whether to push forward, or to leave.
