So, I was in a line at a store, where there was this cute girl at the cash register, I was about to pay for my shit, when this other guy (a douche) gets in front of me, and he obviously knew I was before him in the line, so I said "Hey dude, me first.." and he said.. "Whatever" and continued doing his thing, and I didn't do anything other than show him a weird face and made a little mocking laugh.

So how would you have handled this situation, honestly? I'm not sure if I came off as a "beta" because I think the girl at the register thought he was being a douche, but I still feel like I should have done something more, to "defend my pride".

there are different levels of shit ill tolerate depending on the situation. Now im 6' 3' and I know how to handle bullys so this doesn't happen to me as much as most guys so take that into consideration.

If im alone ill often put up with some shit like this unless i'm in a bad mood, as I'm not being embarrassed/alphaed in front of anyone, so I just have to rationalize it to myself as usually "its not worth fighting over". I doubt the cashier gives two shits either way. If you would have hit on her she probably wouldn't even remember the incident as she doesn't know either of you guys from a hole in the wall so there really is no context.

Often crazy bums will talk shit to me and I don't have the time or the desire to punch each and every one in the face although that's my first reaction.

If your in front of your girl or your family or your friends it may now be worth fighting or escalating over. In this case I may have told him "no cuts dick head" then if he escalates, its on. More likely he would just ignore my insults in which case I made my point and i'm not getting Alpha-ed.

Now ill add one caveat: If the guy is waaay bigger then you or looks gangsta armed or is with a hooligan posse you have to consider that.

your gonna have to figure out your own, internal code of conduct and honor and just stay true to that.

i think the best way to react is to not react at all. you handled it well. a simple "i was here first" is fine, if your reaction is any more than that, then that just shows you are a loser.
and no, the girl didnt think "what a pussy, he didnt defend his position"
she thought "this guy is so cool, he didnt care"

what i would want to do:

just ignore him

what i would probably do:

go to prison for 2nd degree murder

(and no, i'm not kidding)

Fighting over someone getting in front of you is more beta than anything. It shows you can't control your temper in insignificant situations. Now, as mentioned before, the cash register girl probably didnt even noticed. If she did, I don't think she'd see you as someone with lower value for not fighting a dumbass. If she did, then she's the stupid one for wanting this kind of behavior.

Also, did you approach her? If you didn't then who cares anyway.

There are more important things in life than this man. Breath, let it go, and move on. Save the fighting for when someone wants to steal from you or when you are in a karate tournament. :)

First off, he only did it to you because he saw it in you that he could either take you or you were too much of a wuss to say anything... And he was right.

You have to figure out what boundaries you set for yourself and defend your own boundaries. This guy jumping in front of you didn't mean enough to you for you to speak up about it so leave it alone. I have too much pride to have let that go down, but if you don't forget it. Don't pretend.
