Post subject:  Advice from Numpty on "this whole game thing"

Right, so I joined this board on 26th Nov 07 or something like that. I've made several posts asking for help and also offering my experiece so far so I can learn and others can see that it is possible and not all rubbish.

I've received several PMs this week from member's whose names I won't disclose but I'll answer all questions that have been fired at me openly because thats the sort of person I am. At least other people that are really new and maybe affraid to ask the same questions can read this and get the general idea I'm trying to put accross.

Ok I'm 24 from Essex in the UK. I rate myself probably around a 6.5/7 im a little overweight but I'm cool with that. The stuff I've been writing is 100% honest and not BS!! and then finally below (by request) is my general thoughts on image and getting ready for your first sarging session.

-------- Thoughts and opinions from a Numpty state of mind----------
I've only recently started to go sarging. My first attempt is posted on the FR board so please feel free to take a look. I've always been ok talking to girls around the office etc but I think theres a lot to be said about building up a character... I know Style touched on this in "the game".

I have nothing against die hard script writers who note down everything, hey if it works then cool, but here's briefly my theory on it and it really isnt that adept its basic stuff in my opinion.

Thing is I've found using routines in "this game" is very similar to a call centre that follows a script...

You call up say your credit card company or gas/electric supplier and they answer with the same stuff call after call its got a fairly rigid script...

now you say to the agent or whoever, Oh hello "sam" (or whatever their name is) How are you today?

Theres a pause and thats them thinking "erm thats not in my script - oh shoot I've gotta think"

The point I'm trying to make is that its cool to have a set routine for you to follow if thats your thing, but it IS obvious when she mentions or does something thats not been anticipated because although you might not realise it there will be a change in the pace of the moment which will stand out like hockey fan at the superbowel. Thats the price when you're planning to run things word for word and you anticipate in your script exactly what she is going to say in a response.

Example - Imagine you walk up to a 3 set, you run a quick opener "can i get your opinion on something" 2 HB9's just walk off, the other a HB10 goes yeah sure but first come here and she kisses you full on... Thats gonna throw you off, it would throw anyone but if you have a character and a personality then you can work from that and see where it leads. Improvise...

My advice is not to walk around with lines and lines of notes, or dont reherse them like the lead role in a play, be flexible, be a person. On my first Sarge All I had in my head was a couple of openers and a couple of magic tricks the rest was my personality or "game" as we call it.

To quote one of my PMs...

"So if you don't mind me asking, what do you actually say, i mean word for word, how do you stand and what gestures do you make?"

Mate, it doesnt matter what I say... that's something you will develop as a person, if you really struggle with this because you're just well plain... I'm not being rude but watch films, find a character you like and adopt their stances and persona if you want, or goto a drama club and learn improvisation techniques. Thats going to be more use than if you try and copy Me, anyone on this board, Mystery etc etc... I reckon I could mimic someone like say "the joker" from SPAM and still go sarging, because if you know yourself inside out then whatever holes you get into you can dig yourself out of... and for the ones you can't get out of well I would imagine thats what this board is for, so we can learn from mistakes.

To echo what seems to be the most fundamental point - "get out and work with people" theres no experience like first hand experience... you can never pre-empt like what i got the other day...

Run and opener and a AMOG turns and goes "no one give a f***"

Lastly - I'm quickly learning that you get out of this what you put in like a lot of things, you wont pull super models over night but if your willing to put the time in the payback can be amazing.

Feel free to PM me if you need any more basic tips, im not as advanced as most of the guys on here but if you want to just rediscover the basics as I'm working through them, just give me a shout.

Hope someone finds this useful LOL
Cheers,
