| Post subject: | Let's talk tattoos. |
I can't recall seeing a thread on here about tattoos, so I thought i'd make one. Personally, the thought of having something which will stay with me for my life is very scary, but, i've been warming to the thought. I'm considering getting a latin phrase, something relevant to me. I'm currently considering either; nitimur in vetitum (we strive for the forbidden) or Audere est facere (to dare is to do) I really like the first one. The second one is also the phrase of English football club Tottenham Hotspur, so i'm a little iffy about that. I just want something that I can relate to. I believe tattoos are a good form of peacocking and possibly a DHV in some cases. Definitely a talking point, too. Don't get me wrong I wouldn't solely get a tattoo to impress girls, I just think it'd be a nice addition to myself. Wondered what your thoughts were, and what you have/have considered getting. I agree, tattoos are a good pea cocking method, but i wouldn't get a tattoo only for pea cocking. Make sure you absolutely LOVE it, even if others around you don't. I like the first quote you put up, but personally speaking, i'd say, sit on it. Even take a marker and draw your quote on your arm or where ever you plan on getting it and see if you like it. I have two tattoos myself and I don't regret either of them. You asked for an opinion so now i'm going to give you mine. I would NEVER get a quote as a tattoo. Every time i see a quote that i like, a few weeks later i find another that i like more.. This is why i wouldn't get a quote as a tattoo. But if your willing to take that risk, go for it! Once again, just sit on it, and really take into consideration, whether you want to get that, or a different one. If however you do decide to get a quote, get it in another language, so that it makes a good bar story when someone asks you "hey what does that mean?" I'd suggest getting a picture of something you like. Or something with meaning. Something with a LOT of meaning, so that when you're 60 years old and you take your shirt off, you won't be embarrassed about your decisions earlier in life. One more thing i might add... Tattoos are REALLY addicting. I remember before getting my first one i thought "There's no way i'm going to get more than one tattoo, it's just not me." Look at me now, i'm already looking for a third one. I guarantee that once my third one is done, i'll be looking for a forth one. |

Nice, detailed post there Nightrida, thanks. I know what you're saying regarding finding other quotes you like. I'm also worried that a tattoo wouldn't really suit me.. but we'll see! |

Getting mine for my 21st birthday. It's gonna be a tree without leaves on my ribs, with birds (like magpies, sparrows, eagles or something). It's to signify me leaving my home and going to uni, being free and leaving my roots. It's been the most important chapter of my life so far and thats what I want my tatts to mean. I want loads and want them to signify important events in my life. Getting them just to peacock is a bad idea imo and you might regret it. |

Nice, that's deep, I like it.Getting them just to peacock is a bad idea imo and you might regret it. I think having a latin quote (possibly on my forearm) wouldn't just be for peacocking though. Making the most of opportunties so you don't regret missed chances is a big thing for me, I hate dwelling on things and I think it's the sort of motto that i'd love to have to remind me of this on a day-to-day basis. |

Also make sure you really really want that exact tattoo, youll have it for a long time... Plus you will rapidly run out of good spots to put them, it is difficult to stop after just one... |

If you want to get a tattoo, make sure the needles are disposable (for the sake of your safety) and tell the tattoo artist (make sure he's a good one because you're gonna have that with you for a long long time) that you want the expensive ink (if you can afford) so that the writings/mark of the tattoo will be bad ass . -TheNaturalPlayboy |

I have a latin quote going down my side, "vita non est vivere sed valere vita est". It means "a life not lived is not a life worth living". Iv had it for years and I love it. If you want a quote, get something solid that defines and reminds you of the man you want to be, and the life that you want to live. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/263/photo8ph.jpg/ http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/846/photo9hz.jpg/ |
