I love poetry, but no. Fuck no. Poetry will only make you look emo and unattractive to girls. With that said, linguistic skills definitely come in handy when crafting witty funny flirtatious text messages.If girl is attracted to him, then I think it would be useful. But certainly not before that.
Something that is really useful and what I use a lot is romance comedy. You basically start with something romantic, really get into that, and then have a funny punchline.
EXAMPLE:
Me: Have you seen the stars, aren't they romantic. There is just something bautiful about them.
[While talking and pointing to the stars, I'll slowly start touching her ass
and put a little smile on my face. She'll start moving and laughing, punching you and calling you an asshole playfully]But seriously, romance is good when she is attracted to you. You can send her a rose or buy her something that reminded you of her.
So, romance, YES, but attract first...
