Post subject:  Fidgeting

There are many situations (when needed and when not necessairly needed) when I can be laidback and have a calm alpha body language. Still I'm too often fidgeting. I have often heavy difficulties sitting still. I am a restless person in nature due to having ADHD, but I want to be able to sit still and stop fidgeting.

Even although it's part of my nature, I believe it could also be part of something else. Why do I fidget often and how can I stop feeling restless and be able to sit still?

I had the same issue. But at my school we do lot's of speeches and focus on body language. You can use your hands but use them in a positive manner. Be more expressive with your hands!

Are you taking medication for it?

Adam is on the right track, you need to speak with your hands.
If you cant do simple things like tap your fingers on your leg under the table - or shake your entire leg, just doing things that others cant see can keep you calmer and less embarassed

Careful with this type of advice. Hand gestures, if done incorrectly, can project nervousness.

If you are going to talk with your hands, make sure you watch how politicians talk/debate. They're calm and use hand gestures, but they're subtle and soft, which overall makes you look more sincere and confident (think of James Bond..)

What helps me is when I'm standing, my feet are generally at least should length or more apart but not too much unless im trying to be ridiculous hah. My arms are relaxed and my fingers are usually index and middle to my thumb to make sort of a raindrop shape. Both of these things keep me from shifting my feet or moving my arms and hands,ie: touching my face, scratching my face and so on. When I'm sitting down I just usually think " Okay, how would I sit if I were at my house" and I just sit like I'm chilling on the sofa.. to a certain point hah. Too much chill can make me look silly. And I've also taken a lot of public speaking classes and I've aided at a local elementary school teaching English. Basically I just put my self in situations where it requires me to be the center of attention. I'm still working on it but I've noticed a great improvement. I'm not as awkward as I used to be haha.

That's the best advice. Putting yourself out there will force you to grow. Plain and simple. :)

Thanks for the advices lads!

The strange thing is, when I have to focus, or when being the centre of attention, then I don't fidget. F.e.: when I'm giving a presentation, then I mostly don't fidget, instead, people know me actualy for giving good and funny presentations. When I'm talking with a girl, I stop fidgetting often as well. When I have to lead, I fidget less. When having a couple of beers, I don't fidget.

It's at all the other moments that I fidget: when attending classes at college, when studying, when wathing television ...

Study Buddhism and the art of mediation also give tai chi a try. What really helped me was going to the gym and joining an mma class. Or just get high all the time 8) haha your choice man.
