Hey guys, this may seem like a silly problem, but I want to see what you think and if I am just overreacting. My high school prom is today. and I am taking a girl that I have been hanging out with for a few weeks (from outside of my school). There is nothing serious between us yet and I want to just treat this as a fun, relaxed time. Well, I purpose did not get her a corsage because I find that the tradition is unnecessary and a waste, and I don't want to give off vibes that this is going to be serious yet. (We'll be going to different colleges) I was fine, but now I am troubled after talking with someone who was shocked that I am not going to get the corsages. I figured other people don't get corsages so it's not really a big deal, but it seems like corsages are the rule and not getting them is the rare exception. **I will meet her mother for the first time today when I pick her up** What do you guys think? Should I talk to her about it or make a decision on my own about this? Are corsages really that important for prom? And does the fact that I'm meeting her mother for the first time change anything? |

Is it too late to get one? If yes, then there's no reason to fret over it. You made the decision not to get one. On another point, if you are known as a rebel who doesn't follow rules, then be consistent with your personality and don't get one. Personally, I would get one whether it's serious or not. Prom for a lot of girls is a special event, even if she doesn't go to your school. All the girls will have one, and she may feel even more secluded without one. I don't think it has a meaning of "getting serious" as you put it, so there's no reason to worry about that. |

For my prom (which was last weekend) I didn't get my date a corsage. Very few people did actually. I wouldn't worry about it. The only one who might care is the mom, but the girl shouldn't. Just ask her, "is it cool if I don't get you a corsage?" Most likely she will say its fine, but if for some reason she is weird and says its a problem, then you may have to scramble to find one.
