| Post subject: | Cold approaches - my 1st |
I'm new to the game and thought I'd start a thread where could share cold approach experiences. Here's my first, happened a few weks ago. I saw this girl playing in a college volleyball match (I play in the band) and thought, “she is the finest girl I’ve seen all weekend. I have to talk to her.” She was the star player on the opposing volleyball team. I took the team roster to see what her name was. I borrowed a pen and paper and scribbled her a note: “*****, if you have free time before you leave the island, call me”, and left my name and phone number. Their team came out of the locker room for game three and I braced myself for the moment of truth. With the band behind me reminding me that this my chance, I leaned over the railing with my slip of paper, and screamed “excuse me, excuse me, excuse me.” She didn't see me, and everyone saw me get the shaft. I had been at matches for years, and that was the first time I was speechless from shame in front of thousands of people. I did my best to shrug it off and act like nothing happened. I was trying to decide what kind of man I was going to become: a coward, or someone that sees something he wants and goes for it. My normal voice was scratched from hours of screaming, my face oily and wrinkled from days of late-night studying. My shoes didn’t match my socks. The old me kept coming up with excuses to not talk to her. It wasn't over, instead of giving her a note; it would be better if I ask her in person after the game. Even though only a handful of people new what I had in mind, it felt like everyone was watching me, even the TV cameras. As the team approached I walked toward number six with a forced, yet genuine smile. Consequently my smile beamed at one of her teammates. I quickly nodded and extended my hand to ***** As we shook hands, I made sure her palm was the downward facing one before speaking. Our exchange went something like: “Are you *****?” “yes” “Hi, my name is ******, I play in the band and I saw you playing, and I just had to introduce myself”. I’m smiling. That’s good, but I can feel my dimple twitching from nervousness, just maintain eye contact. Keep the eyes locked! “OH! Thank you sooo much!” “I don’t want to keep you, but I wanted to say I don’t know when you leave the island, but I’d really like to have a conversation with you.” “Oh im sorry, but we’re heading the airport in 45 minutes, I’m sorry but thank you so much.” I don’t remember what I said after, I do remember one of my best friends saying “whoa *****”. She was surprised at what I had just done. I was surprised too. There’s a certain feeling I can’t yet describe. That rush you get when you see someone that takes your breath away, and instead of just looking and forgetting, you react. If even for a minute, I got to talk to a really attractive girl because I was able to control my anxiety, I wasn’t a stereotypical “nice guy” that’s paralyzed by fear. That’s something I better get used to. |

Nice job I mean it came of very genuine. To do it in front of everyone makes it even better, actually thats probably what made you successful. Like newton said keep the momentum going. If i was you I would start with your friend(that came up to) she is most likely diggin you now too( but i don't know your situation). |

great stuff here, if you proved that you can indeed approach a set and open it. field test is king. next time you will get the target. |
