DD:"Hey, can I get your female prespective on something" HB-Sure DD- I see a bunch of guys at the gym, that dont work out their legs. Do you think it's important to work out legs? Advice on how to make this better I like it because it shows off a healthy lifestyle, and can lead to a sexual conversation quick. |

Well, to be honest, a lot of the time a girl may wonder "why the hell is he asking me this?" so i try to stray away from opinion openers. Its fair to begin with a normal opener (observational or simple) and later use the opinion as a routine. |

Hey doogy! Thats a better opinion opener for blokes mayn. You could open a set of alpha males with that one. And who knows, you might even get a personal training session. |

The function of an opinion opener is to get a conversation or debate going that leads to a lively, fun interaction. Your basic principles are: (i) You're "flying in under the radar" / going indirect. This means you want the opener to feel as if you're casually asking them because they're the closest people to you. Therefore, it's better to be actually having some debate with a friend, and then swing around and open the nearest set with "hey guys, can you help settle this debate..." for example. If you walk across a crowded room to specifically open a certain set, and then ask an opinion opener, it's like "why did you come all the way over here to ask us that?" (ii) The topic should be something that women are interested in, can relate to, and generally have opinions about. Therefore, football, politics, and lifting weights are probably NOT such great ideas. However, things like relationships, psychology, pop music, fashion, celebrity gossip, etc. ARE. (iii) The question itself should be as open ended as possible. If you ask a yes/no question, you're liable to get a yes/no answer, and then you have to create a new conversational thread to keep the momentum of the interaction going. For example, instead of "do you think X?" you can say "my friend thinks X, but I think Y, what do you guys think?" |
