Post subject:  Library Opener

Hey all, I came up with this one on my way to the library (Two ways of doing it):

1) Check the aisles for an HB and when you find one, enter the aisle and pick up a some novel. Walk over to the HB, hand her the book and say "This is a really good book, you should check it out. I think you'd really like it." When she takes a look and asks what it's about reply "No idea, I've never read it before."

-or-

2) Go to the logic, or classics, or some boring-ass section of the library and pick up some really thick book with really fine print on something really esoteric. FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE BOOK (i.e. title, topic, maybe some of the subtopics). Next, find an HB and present her with the book saying essentially the same thing as in the previous instance "This is a great book, you should really check it out...". She may ask what its called, what it's about, etc. Answer her (because you know these things!). She will be like "WTF?" in her mind. Just reassure her that it's a really easy book, a quick read, with big print (as you show her the fine print). Eventually she will understand you are joking around...unless she's an idiot.

I've only tried this (method 2) on one girl so far. It seemed like it really could have worked if I wouldn't have been at a loss for words a few sentences in. So FAMILIARIZE YOURSELF WITH THE BOOK for method 2.

This is my first opener. Let me know what you think! :D

Ha, the second one is very clever. I might have to try that one out.

Erm good luck with those, they sound like they could work....but I have a good one I used the other week while I was fucking bored revising in a huge 'Silent' room at my university library.

So basically this room is set to exam conditions, staff are nearby and if you talk they kick you out...but anyways, I saw some cute 1st year sitting down a couple rows a head of me, both of us had left the room over the last hour or so and each time we both checked each other out.

So...I wrote a note (pretty old school ha). Saying "Best way to get your number? a)Guess b) Steal it c) Write clever note.....Text reply to (My number)."

Walked up to her desk, few some old notes in the bin next to her desk, smiled and passes her the note then walked back to my desk. She responded instantly with how cheeky it was and she thought I was cute etc....then she suggested coffee before I even got the chance...They love that shit ;)

both work, 2nd one is more clever.

if you used the first one, u'd have to transition fast or you're going to crash and burn imo. if the conversation doesnt shift from the book right away she's going to realize its an indirect pick up and it's turned boring, and you're done.

i like the second one more since it leaves much more room for playful banter and it's easier to control the vibe of the convo.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I agree, I think the second one would work better simply because it's a longer more detailed opener and gives you more time to thing of stuff as you go.
