Use obviously wrong/sarcastic answers. Sometimes I talk to a set about my housemate (if I'm out with him) and describe him as the coolest korean I have ever met, despite having a shitty job at starbucks. He then walks up and is clearly african (nigerian) and a med student. This is a good thing -- to be asked the same questions often. It serves the same purpose as peacocking! You can practice transitions away from the "where are you from?" question, and pretty much depend on being able to use them. |

I get this one a lot, and ive already told people im from disneyland, but I dont think that suits every context. What a good answer to this question is depends only on the situation. People ask this question often in the very beginning as kind of a signal "Id like to converse with you" and if you get sarcastic now its easy to burn them(maybe its just my delivery). I think the easiest way to handle this, especially if you are from somewhere people are supposed to find interesting, is just answering the question quickly and then transition. Or you can try to simply lie. It should be an outrageous lie(jamaica/siberia) and you should tell it with a straight face. If she falls for it you can bust her about that later. If not you tell her shes so smart or that she only is mean to you because you are jamaican or both. If they ask in midconversation they might really want to know. If you think they just ran out of things to say or they think they have to make "conversation" do anything but get on a logical level of shared boredom. ...but if they ask "what are you" they DESERVE to be busted on. i am a tasty wiener women adore! |

When people ask me "What are you"? I usually reply "I'm 50% German, 25% Irish, 25% Dutch and 50% Czech" |

I have a very strong but strange accent. It is very unique and draws a lot of attention. It's almost as good as my peacocking skills. I like taking this to a completely different direction and ask them to guess where I'm from. As no one ever guesses this builds tension, mystery and the HB can't leave me alone until she gets her answer. |

mystery says in a video to some chick, "i'm a self glorified bum...but i'm here in hollywood for a reason". i think this is great. why dont you say "i'm a naturally tanned part-time Masseur", this could get various responses e.g. "no you willy, i meant where are you from" OR "a masseur 'ey?" -"yea, but you can't afford me" -"haha BLAH" -"get me a drink n i'll give you a sample" = kino. wats really funny is giving a face massage, actually like rubbing her cheeks n getting your mate to take a photo whilst this is happening |

I roll with it I have a black cowboy hat so I give them a hint (no, I'm not an LA pimp). If they get too international I take the conversation to travels around the world. Chicks love talking about exotic places. If they guess right (which they rarely do) I either pass it off as a wrong guess or congratulate them and up the kino. |

what about saying somthing like where you from? "if you guess right ill let you buy me a drink" if im wrong? "than i can only humor you with witty conversation for another 30 second befor i rejoin my friends" if shes clever or witty at this point she might say somthing really obviously wrong, like kazikstan or somthing to which you might reply "your correct! Ill take a disorono on the rocks" |

nope not field tested, but i will if im the situation, her asking where hes from should be a sign of interest anyways. and personally i try to always keep it playful. and the initial "if you guess right" im guessing wont always follow that exact sequence but may lead down other interesting and playfull conversation paths |

Haven't field tested these: HB: what are you? ----------------------- - I'll give you 3 guesses (engage her for further conversation. Maybe add the catch: "get them all wrong and you buy me a drink") ----------------------- - You're not one of those stalker girls I hear about , are you? (neg) ------------------------ - Why, do you like it? HB: blah blah blah Well what are you? HB: blah blah blah Oh, my ex was blah blah blah, she was pretty psycho. I'm guessing it was just coincidence, you dont look like the psycho type. (good neg?) Thoughts? |
