So I really don't like OPINION openers, they are just unusual to me and I don't use them.. I guess it's the place I live in, it's somehow strange to ask stranger about opinions before you say something else for at least 5 mins... it's hard to explain but it's weird to use it here.. it's not people are closed, it's just strange... On other side, DIRECT openers are just that, direct, and I don't like them because of that (Mistery and Style are both against using direct openers, and I get it why). I really like SITUATIONAL openers, but you know, you need situation for that So what are some good openers that are not opinion or direct?... something really funny, or something you just say or ask but it's not like "Hey I need your opinion.." type of question. I really need this! I know it doesn't matter what you open with but you need to have at least 5 good (for you) canned openers in your head right, so that you can be more comfortable and prepared starting conversation. I was searching the forum but most of these are opinion openers. Anyone? Thanks, Nik |

Here are some of my favorite openers that I personally use all the time: "Hi" "Hello" "Hey" "What's up" ...and I also use direct because I know how unlike most students of Mystery and Style. |

"I like apples" Just works better every time I say it. Btw, what you say is mostly irrelevant. (Just as long as you don't say anything far out of limit) Rather work on your delivery instead. - Exerio |

To my knowledge, opinion openers only work when it's socially OKAY to use them. That is, not on the street. At least not here in Sweden. Damn we are reserved over here. Too bad. Clubs, parties - use them. It's easy, and people respond. One thing here in sweden is that strangers tend to NOT respond to open questions. At Dreamhack (worlds largest LAN-party), in the toilet, I said: "Heh, this is the time where you wish you were a girl, so that you could skip this enormous toilet queue. The response was silence. Now, on topic. I know your dillemma. And I like the mentioned suggestions here: simply say Hi - or say something random. There is a lot of material that you can use. I'll get you started: 1. Say it out loud; "Hey... do you come here often.. ?", it's a bad fucking pickup line, but at least it throws you into a conversation. Delivered properly, the worst that could happend is that you make a new FRIEND. 2. Ask about information; "Do you know whats the name of that green pokemon?". Now, she could say "NO", and you could respond with "you're kidding me?! don't tell me you didnt play pokemon as a kid" (works over here,at least in my town. and for people in my age.. but feel free to exchange the subject and use the logic instead). Also, it sounds like you need a reason to talk to someone. You don't. |

I used this yesterday when i was in the bar: Me: " Hey girls, quick question, did you happened see a foreign man walking here holding a white purse... " ( asking like i was searching him ) HB: heh, no Me " Oh, ok, thats wierd.... he had like this huge feministic white purse witch was full of glitter and stuff. It was pretty funny looking because he was pretty big guy and he just seemed to love it " HB: hehe Me: By the way name is Johnny ( i know that its usually better to wait until she asks your name, one of the signs of interest... ) HB (s ): we are blaa blaa blaa Me: so how do you guys all know each other ( hooking ) After this i just played it natural but I´m not sure how to category this opening tough.......
